Death Cab For Cutie Bring Conan Their "Little Bribes"

thumbnail icon: Death Cab For Cutie Bring Conan Their "Little Bribes"

While out in L.A. collaborating with Beck's dad at the Hollywood Bowl, Death Cab extended their stay long enough to visit Conan's new digs at The Tonight Show. They performed The Open Door EP's "Little Bribes," the track once known as "Casino Blues" which recently saw its fan video become official. Performing the tune for CoCo is just celebration.

The Open Door EP is out, and is still streaming here, here, here, and here.

I thought the EP was solid, but I think it's becoming pretty apparent that Walla's production plays a huge part in the band's sound. They sound SO flat live. Maybe it's Gibbard's hair. I dunno.

I was pretty disappointed when I saw them live. Their live show is basically a longer version of what you see in this video.

What do you want them to do? Jumping Jacks?

Some rising/falling energy dynamic or emotional connection to the audience would be nice considering that's what makes their recordings good. I was amazed that they were able to take songs like "I Will Follow You Into The Dark" and "Tiny Vessels" and perform them without any emotion or urgency.

This is was a bad choice as the single from the album. My Mirror Speaks or I Was Once A Loyal Lover are better choices. Also, a frantic light scheme might've added energy to this performance.

I saw Death Cab at First Ave in Minneapolis in 2003 and the live show was INCREDIBLE. They really conveyed that emotion from their songs. I was impressed. Then, I saw them at the House of Blues in Las Vegas in 2004....and their show was completely flat. Didn't even talk to to audience, their songs sounded bland. I don't know what happened between 2003 and 2004....but it looks like it hasn't become any better. That is sad, because they are such an amazing band.

their sound is not that flat live. It is just the usual late show shitty sound (except fallon apparently)
