Death Cab Try On Short Shorts, Sweatbands, WhirlyBall For MTV

Ben, Chris, Jason, and Nick hopped inside bumper cars and took on the onerous task of learning how to play WhirlyBall as part of their 52 Bands/52 Weeks stint at MTV. We understand their Stereogum guest blogging stint was tough, but this looks tougher. Here's the introductory MTV promo, as hosted by Ben "Stretch" Gibbard.

He's getting good at viral video. Other spots include "No Sunlight" in WhirlyBall garb and "I Will Possess Your Heart" in McCarren Pool:

"No Sunlight" MTV Spot

"I Will Possess Your Heart" @ McCarren MTV Spot

If you're a fan of entire songs/not a fan of Whirlyball, head here for DCFC's entire Bonnaroo set.

YES............WhirleyBall is the chronic. You havent lived until some drunk jerk-stain comes at ya at a staggering 5mph wielding a plastic jai-lai kinda stick with nothin but business on their face. This should be an olympic sport.

I was @ the McCarren Park Pool show, stellar live performance. Now if only the elements cooperated and we got our last 45 minutes of the show.

We've actually played them twice and beaten them. What? Do you think they knew about whirlyball from anybody other than us? Come on, give me a break!

Even though I have never played whirly ball it look like it could be a good time. I think DCFC did a good job going humorous in this video. A lot of bands in the industry are always too serious and I think its good that they did something like this. And a lot of band in the industry do try this approach and fail. So my hats off the Death Cab.

What a lame band. I wanna punch the lead singer in the face so bad and watch him cry. How would that sound?

if youre asking how his cries would sound, i think quite nice actually.

Henry: I just assumed MTV saw your love of Whirlyball and thought it would be a good idea. Haven't ever seen the game mentioned anywhere that hasn't been relating to yourselves at Chunklet. So in answer to your (probably rhetorical) question, no I didn't, but I had no clue you had played DCFC.

p.s. Issue 20 is needed.

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...
