Depeche Mode Bring The Old And The New To Kimmel

thumbnail icon: Depeche Mode Bring The Old And The New To Kimmel

I've spoken to quite a few people who are stoked to see Depeche Mode live on their Sounds Of The Universe-supporting Tour Of The Universe. Last night the guys offered a taste of what to expect at Lollapalooza, etc., though hopefully the sound's better at Lollapalooza, etc. At certain points you can barely hear Dave Gahan and the instrumentation never really throttles on two tracks (newbie "Wrong" and a song called "Personal Jesus") that really should throttle and/or whip you.

"Wrong"

"Personal Jesus"

It's OK to call it a come back.

"Playing the Angel" is the better album, but it definitely seems that they've managed a David Bowie-style"conquer your demons and settle into a skillfully-crafted musical middle age" transition.

I was at the show.
The sound was way better live than it sounded on Jimmy Kimmel.

They played a 7 song set. Really cool night.
