Dewey Cox Offers Up Ten Minutes Of Walk Hard, Covers Amy Winehouse

Goldenfiddle asks why anybody would "want to watch the first 10 minutes of any movie before it’s in theaters?" After watching the first ten minutes of Walk Hard, your answer: To be underwhelmed, of course!

It's all part of Apatow's marketing rollout for the increasingly meh looking rocker biopic spoof that's included some net-ready trailers and music clips, a little stunt casting, and some live dates for the Dewey Cox & The Hard Walkers Cox Across America Tour (which looks to be the best thing we've seen from the project yet, aside from Tim Meadows's pot mouth). And since today's taken on a Winehouse spin thanks to Time and a practically posthumous video, here's Dewey live in Nashville covering "Rehab."

And the Marshall Crenshaw penned "Walk Hard"...

And then "Let's Duet" ("in my dreams you're blowing me ... some kisses")

More clips from the Nashville gig at Nashpreds99's YouTube.

It looks good to me actually. I was at the Chicago Dewey Cox performance, and it was fantastic. Plus, it earns tons o' bonus points for casting Honeyboy Edwards.

if it looks 'increasingly meh' why have you done dozens of posts on it over the last couple of months?

I was there, it was awesome, until he said Jack White might come out and White was a no-show. That was kinda lame, but all-in-all it was great. The girl singing with him is Holly Williams, Hank Jr.'s daughter. Very good and very hot.

The clip I saw where Dewey takes on a mid '60s Dylan persona was hilarious.

Let's not get carried away here. Who ever thought this was going to be a classic? It's going to be a funny movie to smoke some weed to and be entertained. Not much more.

Blame yourself for over-hyping it and lighten up.

This movie is going to be genius, based on the deluxe soundtrack off itunes. I can't stop listening to it. All the songs are either outright hilarious, or hilarious because of how well they do the era. He also has one of the best voices out there.

I'm psyched.

I saw an early screening of this movie. It's really lame.

Make up your mind, Stereogum. First you talk this movie up ad nauseum, now you do nothing but talk about how bland it is. Fuck that. Either stand behind it or shut up about it. That's just bad form.

It's the first ten minutes of the film. It's not surprising that it's a little blah. I'll wait and see, if only because of Jack White's appearance.

How much are you being paid to promote this movie? Clearly you are being paid because you posted about it a few times already

I think this is an instance where sharing too much is going to backfire on the studio. I agree with Stereo Gum the only funny scene has been the marijuana bit. Why is it not surprising the first ten minutes are blah. Are the first ten minutes of every good comedy filled with jokes that fall flat? And bloggers should only say positive things about movies or "shut up"? That's enlightening!

Does anyone know where I can find the YouTube clip of Dewey Cox's 1979 appearance on The Muppet Show when he showed up ripped on Bene tubes and tried to suck Ms. Piggy's left tit? I think Universal pulled all of those clips from the site.

Well, based on what little I'd heard, I was actually looking forward to the movie. But based on this clip, it's moved way down on the list.

Am I the only one who thinks the 'Let's Duet' pun is funnier than the 'Blowin me' pun?

I saw the movie tonight and it wasn't half bad. Hilarious casting, especially for the scene in India with the Beatles. Some of the musical spoofs fall a little flat, but the better ones (especially the Dylan bit) are more than enough compensation.

All in all, it was a much better movie than I expected, especially given how lousy the trailer made it look. I think this will be another win for Apatow.

I'm so glad Johnny Cash is already dead and he didn't have to see this, cause making fun of the death of his brother is HILARIOUS.

i SO thought this movie would be great and that the terrible trailers making the rounds of theaters were the result of rushing mediocre footage out to hype the shit ASAP & capitalize on the apatow name ...

what i've heard of the music sounds hilarious but ... hmmm; it's no tenacious D, spinal tap, or pistol opera ...

i am SO fucking sick of seeing this movie. it's apparent that you are getting paid to post this, whether you bash it or not. please, for the love of god, don't let the fact that another company has stock in you stop you from posting good material.

Saw the movie last night. Watch the clip for "Let's Duet" on the Walk Hard website and skip the movie. There are some funny parts, but overall it drags. I can't imagine paying to see it in the theatre.

Yeah it's not worth seeing at the theater I would presume. I do think "Let's duet" is pretty good. Like, honestly a good song, without the innuendo.

Five million? I still heart you, Scott Stereogum, but FIVE million? Jesus. What's Pfork and the Gawker empire worth? I think I may have been srsly undervaluing this market all along.

Good for you, I mean. Stunna.

You guys are fuddy duddys. That's right: fuddy duddys. The worst thing in the world. The movie was pretty damn funny. Not a classic maybe, but definitely funnier than Apatow/Reilly's last outing, Talladega Nights (which it's probably closest to in terms of style of humor). Two more reasons to see it? Jenna Fischer's knockers, which are in ample supply throughout.
