Dunder Mifflin Karaoke

Michael losing himself to James Blunt's "Goodbye My Lover" was painfully awesome and just the beginning of a sing-along spectacular holiday episode of The Office last night. There's a two minute recap here, but it unfortunately omits those priceless karaoke moments. Here's what the crew treated us with during their Dunder Mifflin holiday party

  • Kevin sang "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morissette (with extra "You"s)
  • Michael and Andy sang "Your Body Is A Wonderland" by John Mayer
  • Kelly sang "We Belong Together" by Pat Benatar (creeping Ryan the fuck out)
  • Dwight sang "Lady" by Styx (Angela smiled!)
  • Angela sang "Little Drummer Boy" (with Dwight as mic stand)
  • Creed sang something, too -- anybody remember what song that was? Best performance goes either to Kevin's burning take on Alanis, or Michael's "Your Body Is A Wonderland," if only for his expression when Benihana Girl #1 (or was it #2) rode up on the bike (classic). And the holiday lesson Michael learned last night? Bros before ... well, he's better at it than we are.

UPDATE: John Mayer's no fool. From his blog (thanks, Bryan!):

One of my favorite shows on television, The Office, wanted to use my song "Your Body Is A Wonderland" in a scene for their Christmas episode. Now, I'm not making apologies for my work, but it's safe to say I don't get asked to use "Wonderland" for strongman competitions and documentaries about aircraft carriers. I get asked so that people can goof on it. I initially turned the request down, but after thinking about it, (and hearing the details on the incredibly funny sounding scene from producer BJ Novak) I decided to go for it - but with one stipulation:

    I want a Dundie.

Quid pro quo. Well played, J May. Congrats on your Dundie for "Tallest Music Dude."

My guess is that Creed sang something by his old band the Grass Roots.

Kevin's performance of You Oughta Know was fantastic. If only the Pam and Roy wedding party had occured we could have seen more from Kevin as the drummer and lead singer of Scrantonicity who "totally rock".

I too figured Creed probably sang one of his own songs, as it seemed pretty unrecognizable.

Creed's song was indeed one of his own, a Grass Roots song called "Beatin' Around The Bush".

Those two minute recaps on nbc.com are awful. They didn't even mention the asian marking scene which was the most hilarious thing all season.

I like how Toby gets increasingly more and more patheticly dejected as time goes on.

anyone who doesn't like one-note characters, repeating catchprases ad nauseum and tired observational "humor" isn't allowed to be my friend.

Actually, I don't mind Seinfeld as much as the canonization by its fans. Jerry was smart to pull the plug before viewers noticed that the well had run dry.

Also, the funniest thing about the Benihana girls is that the two who came to the Dunder Mifflin party aren't the two that Michael and Andy were talking to at the restaurant.
