Fleet Foxes Bring "Blue Ridge Mountains" To Letterman

thumbnail icon: Fleet Foxes Bring "Blue Ridge Mountains" To Letterman

The ascending bearded ones of Fleet Foxes -- aka the band that's helping make America cool again -- brought their celebrated live thing to the Ed Sullivan Theatre last night. While holding up the band's self-titled album cover (with design by Artist To Watch Pieter Bruegel), Dave asks "Did you put away the dogs before you brought out the Fleet Foxes?" That's funny because Letterman had dock-diving dogs out earlier. Unless he was talking about main guest Seth Rogen. Either way Fleet Foxes sounded and looked like this:

Which is to say, irresistible as usual. But, "Making their network television appearance," eh Dave? He meant to throw a "first" in there. We're expecting a few more before it's over.

Beautiful! I like that Casey gets to play a real piano, and Robin wears a new shirt. And he opens his eyes a couple of times! Awesome.

I love it right at the end when he gets really excited and starts singing really loud but then gets kind of self conscious and backs it down a little. Such a good voice. Damn. How can they sound that damn good live? Even Dave seems a little in shock.

Very cool. My favorite tune off the album and they played it perfectly.

I guess it's just his preference to sit down while performing, which is fine, but he could have at least stood up when Dave came over to thank them.

Hey Robin, that sounded great but why didn't you stand to shake Dave's hand?? Seemed a little rude to me.

I don't get the hype. I try and I try to listen, but they always just put me to sleep. Something for the jam band set to chill out to, I guess. Maybe I'll try again in the winter.

(Last time I will comment on a thing I promise)

The lady backstage told us not to move a muscle after finishing the song and that we should stay in place until after he came over and said goodnight to the crowd!! I figured that meant stay seated since we had done the camera-moves rehearsal with me sitting down and all. I'm sorry!!! I didn't mean to be disrespectful! Shoot! I love Dave, watched his show every night growing up, my dad's even been to the live taping four times before!!! Dave's a family idol!

I'd knew you would respond. Yeah, it just looked kinda funny. Seriously though, that was one of the best late night performances I've ever seen. Can't wait for the second album!

Robin, please play St. Louis. WTF??

Absolutely dig the new album. I know you probably hate hearing this, but you guys are better than all the bands you get compared to.

They ain't all that bad but i still cant get over how much they've ripped off my morning jacket's sound i mean they're not even hiding it. It's worse than Muse's ripping of Radiohead.

Sorry, Fleet Foxes blow My Morning Jacket out of the water. And as if MMJ isn't completely derivative of a dozen other bands going back decades.

sunny d, you're obviously a really sweet person and i can i see your very upset. it's ok, buddy. i've got the solution to your problems: don't listen to Fleet Foxes or read any posts about them. as much as we love to hear your thoughts, we don't.
