Frank Black Performs With Portland School Of Rock

thubmnail icon: Frank Black Performs With Portland School Of Rock

Yesterday we posted a clip of Kim Deal doing the Amps' "Bragging Party" with her sister and Deerhunter. Her fellow Pixie Frank Black's collaborators on "Where Is My Mind" are much younger than Cox & Co., but the Portland School of Rock kids do a more than admirable job keeping up with the back catalog and not freaking out in front of a sold out crowd of 500. Cheeky or not, as they gear up and plug in, Black notes things are running more smoothly than the first Pixies show in 1986 (i.e. before anyone in his current backing band was born). Teenager Of The Year references have been made elsewhere, but Teenager Of The Year references bear repeating.

Why wasn't I a teenager in Portland? This stuff just didn't used to happen. Frank Black is awesome. Good for those kids.

I was there; it was a pretty cool show. The kids were all pretty talented, although some definitely should NOT have been singers. But when Frank got on stage, they literally sounded like the Pixies. It was rad as hell.
