Franz Ferdinand Cover "Womanizer"

thumbnail icon: Franz Ferdinand Cover "Womanizer"

Following in the footsteps of Lily Allen, All-American Rejects, Fall Out Boy, Ladyhawke, and thousands of teens on YouTube, the boys in Franz Ferdinand have put a debonair spin on Britney's ubiquitous comeback single. No surprise, they make it sound like a Franz Ferdinand song. The performance, recorded for BBC's Live Lounge, is a bit sloppy, but then again so is Ms. Spears. When asked by BBC why the band chose "Womanizer," Alex Kapranos said it was because it's the best song out in the last few months.

Tonight: Franz Ferdinand is out now on Domino.

It briefly turns into Shopping For Blood at 2:45. Really wish they'd done more songs like that.

Never heard the Spear's original, and never will! This song seems way too long and drawn out.

wtf?
this is horrible.
and alex...best song in the last few months?
this explains everything your band has been doing.
there is nothing good about you or what you do.

Is it a comment on the state of Franz Ferdinand that they are doing this AFTER the All American Rejects? Being second is one thing, but being behind them? That's just pathetic.

This is in reference to the negative comments. Especially those who have 'never heard the original.' Gimmeabreak.

I've never heard the original so can't comment on the "originality" of the cover, but it's very funky and hooky, like pretty much everything Franz Ferdinand does, so it's not bad.

Guess they just didn't want to do "Poker Face". It seems everyone wants to do that these days.

hate the brit but I love love Franz. This cover is awesome. Franz always make original songs better e.g. the cover of gwen stefani's "what you waiting for" or Air's "sexy boy."

great, liked it.

You can't go wrong covering Ms. Spears. It can only get better.

Rêveur

Franz has always been pretty lame, and no guys they aren't good, at all. They make the same song over and over, and it sucked the first time.

the fact that he said one of the worst singles on the radio is the best song of the past few months is pretty fucked up.

What is it with irrelevant bands from 2004 making horrendous, nonsensical covers? Next it's going to be the Hives covering Carrie Underwood.

I don't think it is bad at all. The song tests the limits of his vocal range but I like it better than Britney's version.

I totally agree with "Jostmon" it's a proof of how well this guys can do, obviously Alex shows his great vocals, and make a simple song (in Britney's voice) a cool thing, something you can really dance to, is not about how lame, o predictible the original song is, it's about the guys taking the chance of experimenting with sounds, that's all.
(like with air's "sexy boy" or Stefani's "What you Waiting For")

Something that's not Franz they made it sound like it, as if Britney stolled the song before they recorded it. . . like something that was meant for Alex to sing, but it was Britne-rize
hahaha XD
