Girl Talk Is A PC

Apple's long-running Mac vs. PC ad campaign may be elitist, but as Videogum points out, "at least they addressed the superiority of their product over the competition, emphasizing the fact that PCs get viruses and break all the time." This new "I'm A PC" spot starring Girl Talk in his hotel room fails to identify why PCs are better, but we can assume it's because Gregg needs a laptop that can withstand flailing hipsters spilling Sparks. (Panasonic Toughbook is the mashup maestro's preferred brand.) Girl Talk's computers are covered in plastic because Mr. Gillis likes to make people sweat, and he is going to sweat on you.

Feed The Animals is out now for a price of your choosing.

I see more kids at college with apples then I do PC's. I'm quite happy with my PC being different then the masses but I do have a top of the line HP with crazy specs.

Apple USED to be far and away ahead of PCs as far as music computers, but PC closed the gap a long time ago. The "artists prefer apple" thing is just a cosmetic elitist thing now. Once had something to it; now it's bullshit. Actually, PC has a lot more supported music apps and plug-ins now thanks to VST.

Not to mention how Apple's ads sum up to "our computers are for people too stupid to use a PC!" Elitist AND condescending. Wonderful.

It's really naive to think Apples can't get viruses. And it's a little (okay, a lot) ironic how everyone's showing how "indie" they are by filling up the pockets of a huge corporation that makes you pay a lot more and ties you to proprietary hardware.

Not to shit on Apples, there just isn't much (if any) advantage for the price anymore, at least in music. XP Pro is actually the preferred OS for the majority of pro audio people now... of course Vista's a joke....

I don't think I get what makes him a hobo... He has facial hair? Just has that whole "hobo vibe"? What the fuck, man? Pretty judgmental. I am a little surprised he uses a PC. Since when have ads been meaningful? They are just trying to get you to buy something... And I'd like to see what you can mix on any computer. It'd probably be just as enjoyable as what Girl Talk does, right? Links, please!

Hahaha, wake up dude. You're Mac is a pc. It'll have an intel chip, with in a socet 775 motherboard, same kind of ddr2/ddr3 ram, etc, etc. Mac gave up on their dated Risc technology ages ago and went straight for pc hardware, cause its better. The only diff now is yuo're rig costs a third more, and runs the static mac os.

Well, running windows on a mac is dumber then anything. Your overpaying for the specs. I just bought a HP for 950$ with 4 gigs of memory, a 2.53 processor, and 320 gig harddrive. To do that on a mac 3 months ago I would have to buy a pro for double. Your only paying for cosmetics.

in the short run, a pc is cheaper, but when it crashes and breaks down every 5 months, it costs more money. i've been working of the same imac since 2005 and it hasn't had a single real problem.

you hear about PCs crashing way more often because way, way, way more people use them (more systems in the market the more that will crash).
I built my own PC and upgraded three times (it is incredibly easy give it a whirl sometime), if you combine the total amount I spent on these upgrades and compare what my cpu can do to an apple, even with three upgrades I still paid less than you would for a mac by about 500 USD).

There are less viruses for apple because no one wastes their time making viruses that would affect so few people (look outside of the college kids, the overwhelming majority, 85% of the world, uses pcs)

Buying an apple, pretty much forces you to use apple products unless you buy microsoft products. Oh, that reminds me, apples are pretty much useless for data analysis (you know what grown-ups do with their CPUS)

besides it is nice to play games that aren't like 5 years old

buying an apple is pretty much the same as saying i like spending twice as much for a pretty toy, just so I fit into some hipster crowd

I thought that ad was weird. and yeah, weak. I think it's great that Microsoft couldn't play even a second of Gillis' music lest they fear being sued out of a couple mil.

Girl Talk does a lot more than throw sixteens over rock records. He seamlessly builds entirely new compositions from fragments of as many as half a dozen songs at one time. The scope, the knack for near-impeccable pacing, and the ear for what works and what doesn't are all uncanny ability. Playing a Girl Talk recording (or watching a Girl Talk show) compared to the vast majority of "mash-up" DJs is no contest.

I'm pretty sure that the primary reason Girl Talk uses those cheap Toshiba PCs is because he trashes them so much on tour and they are easily replacable. Really his endorsement is a backhanded insult at PCs.

I'm sure your sister is very familiar with live editing software and knew exactly what he was doing. I don't doubt that he seemed 'messed up,' though I'm sure he wasn't on coke. How would you behave if you had been crushed by sweaty morons (like your sister, for example) for 90 minutes, then when you finished they came up to ask you endless asinine questions?

In any case,it's really classy to call someone out for being 'messed up on coke' on a public comment section with nothing to substantiate it. What else did your sister tell you that you see the need to publish for the masses?

I will never get over how weak-sauce it is to trash someone, especially an artist, with complete anonymity over the internet. I realize that you may not appreciate what Mr. Gillis does, or the crowd he attracts, or apparently the way he looks... but if you have ever tried to make a mash-up (I, for one, have) it is extremely difficult, tedious and to do so with the precision that Girl Talk does is damn near impossible.

I have seen Girl Talk live on more than one occasion and found him to be hilarious and a pretty caring guy. I won't deny the claim that he seemed "messed up" but it struck me more as his demeanor than any substance use and as previously mentioned... if you have nothing to substantiate a claim don't make it.

Lastly, I can wholeheartedly vouch for the fact that he is mixing more or less on the fly. He uses a live editing software (can't recall the name of it) and though he has a sketch of what he's going to play (a set-list as it were) he is playing all the samples and physically bringing the fragments (not full tracks) in and out at his leisure and controls the tempo and everything else. It's pretty incredible stuff really and does take talent. Whether you think this makes him a musician is up to you, but he is certainly "good at computers".

As for the ad: pretty bad all in all.

Windows can't tolerate all of the porn I download. Apple wins!

But seriously, I'm a pretty technologically practical person, so I can make due with either of them. I'll say this, though; I've lost a handful of PCs in my day due to viruses, but I've only lost one Mac because a gust of wind blew a bottle of water all over it. I am a little off-put by Mac's slick Death Star image, though.

Isn't part of Girl Talk about taking relatively uncool music and making it cool (i.e. Rod Stewart on Feed the Animals)? If that's part of his MO, then this totally makes sense. Oh, and he basically gave his record away for free, so he needs the money. Some of the live videos on his Evri page are pretty crazy, he somehow makes urban white hipsters care about southern rap - http://www.evri.com/person/girl-talk-0x22026.html
