A nice take on a pretty great song. But is Girls the best album of 2009? No, no it is not. But it may be the best came-out-of-nowhere-and charmed-your-pants-off album of 2009. I'm sitting here now pants-less.

I'm really diggin' the Girls album. Yes, it was unexpected. But what's really surprising to me Is that it reminded me of Sleppy Jackson's "Lovers" a lot. So do you think they're the west coast California version of Luke Steele?

No, Girls have very little in common with Luke Steele/Sleepy Jackson. No deference meant to Luke as I like his work, but his music is a little more premeditated. Girls seem more genuine and earnest. I can't imagine Girls making and electro dance album anytime soon as Luke did with Empire of the Sun.

How was this album unexpected? – Girls have been getting a considerable amount of coverage for over a year now. They were playing really great shows at The Delancey and Glasslands last Fall.

Gorilla vs. Bear is ahead of the curve on the artist they cover.
