Gone All Tomorrow's Partyin'

thumbnail icon: Gone All Tomorrow's Partyin'

Sorry to have to do this, and also very psyched to have to do this: Scott, Brandon, and I are piling into a rental car in a few minutes, making the trek from Brooklyn to Monticello to join the welcome wagon for My Bloody Valentine's first US show in 16 years, at ATP NY this weekend. It's like a blogger high holiday. Things get started tonight with full album performances from Tortoise (Millions Now Living...) and Built To Spill (Perfect From Now On) and etc., and keep going at the Kutshers country club until Sunday night's noise holocaust.

Going? Bring earplugs. (And also the the full timetable.) If not, you still can partake thanks to WFMU's live streaming sets on Saturday and Sunday, (including Growing, Low, Om, Polvo, Thee Mt. Silver Zion Orchestra, Lightning Bolt, Lilys, Yo La, Mercury Rev, and Dino Jr. -- and they promise even more, so keep an eye on the site). While you're streaming, check in here for photo/verbal reportage through the weekend.

And in case you don't know why this MBV thing is sort of a big deal, please accept this refresher:

And that's what they sound like now. Damn.

This is really one of the best records ever made. I would love to see MBV live. Is it the same lineup from loveless?

department of eagles vs my bloody valentine... get the fuck out.

i am also deeply jealous of the people that will see them this next week at the roseland. I wonder if they are just as ear splitting in a wide venue? I am expecting a blog post from this. I also saw a recent video where people where scratching up the walls looking for something to stuff on their ears... lol

they didnt make a comparison. i think it was more of a "im not there so this will have to do." pompous motherfucker.

Because they're not touring in my city, I was trying to convince myself that MBV sucks having not performed for 15 years. Now i don't even have that to cling to.
Thanks a whole hell of a friggin lot, stereogum.

is this clip for real? if they're sounding this good playing these songs, I'd have to say that its an achievement for rock music, in general. seriously, that was amazing, sounds nothing like the other early live clips I've seen of them. I missed getting tix by minutes, apparently, suckage. have a blast everyone who gets to see them.

Seeing them in Chicago. I'd never watched live footage before this, and always wondered how they did this stuff on stage. I guess they just... sing and play guitar. Figured some kind of artificially generated tornado played a part. Can't wait.
