Grizzly Bear Bring "Two Weeks" To Letterman

thumbnail icon: Grizzly Bear Bring "Two Weeks" To Letterman

You know something's going well when you can get a room full of drunks to shut up and watch David Letterman at 12:20AM. At the viewing party last night at Hi Fi, it was pretty much silence and smiles. Doveman's in the back rolling on some arpeggios, Ed's upfront on the omnichord, Rossen's flashing a seated look at the keys, the Chrisses are locked in. It took a wait of three weeks, but last night we finally got the new Droste/Bear cut "Two Weeks." Signature harmonies? Check. So much sunshine? Check. Another silly good look at what's shaping up to be the Grizzly pop album everybody's hoping for? Check, please.

Letterman's guest last night was John C. Reilly. Unfortunately the band never met him. Fortunately, you guys are great at ripping MP3s from videos:

Grizzly Bear - "Two Weeks" (Live On Letterman) (MP3)

Previously in why the new Grizzly Bear record will probably own your face.

I sent in the Audio for this to the band, by the way.

Brilliant song. Next album will be the greatest ever made.

You sent it, but I ripped it, mang

not that I care about who gets credit. All that matters is that people get good music

something about the electric piano, bass, and drumbeat reminds me of early walkmen. which is never a bad thing. reverb soak.

The Nickelback comment thread you're looking for is three doors down.

Consider me a total GB convert - I'm excited as hell to see them in a week and get the album, too.

The Other Matthew

I suppose you think that "God Only Knows" is dull, syrupy dreck, then?

not quite as boring as the song, though. sunshine and harmonies really brainwashed an inbred indie-yuppie generation. there was a time I longed for the beach boys to come back in pop fashion. man that was a long time ago.

i like AIDS Bear better, anyway.

So who went to HiFi last night? How is the new of Montreal???

I like how they disabled the comments in that earlier post to keep all the angry folks away :)

I am as big of a fan as they have. this song isn't my favorite of theirs, but what is amazing to me is the early quality. the song is great and its new material. stuff they write is barreled and let loose post record and ages into something ridiculous. with new material this good, who knows how incredible it will be when they have time to fiddle with it some more. this record is going to be fucking amazing, and seeing them live will continue to be fucking amazing.

why oh why must cbs take down these videos. and why oh why must they continually make insanely great songs.

I didn't really care about Grizzly Bear at all, I don't even know why I bothered watching that video. All I know is that I am glad I did, this song is wonderful and that voice is to die for.

Cool song, but it loses a lot of the momentum at the chorus.

Did Jim James let him borrow his omnichord?

The Omnichord has been around some 25 years.... Jim James isn't the first person to use it & by far will be the last...

what a great band.

but does anyone else hear those opening notes and expect the big drumroll into "i got a hand so i got...." of wolf parade's "dear sons and daughters of hungry ghosts"? just me?

I was gonna say that they made me think of a lobotomized three dog night with something vaguely human league going on but i picked up on the tastey yes/mc cartney bass hookey ness the second time i watched. maybe lobotomized three dog night is good enough...

the "listening party" was a sham. someone put "the past is a grotesque animal" on the jukebox and then minutes later the album went on without anything being said. i doubt most people even knew that it was a listening party for oM. you could hardly hear it all. from what i could hear, it sound really awesome. there are definitely a lot of very short sections that have intentionally abrupt transitions as barnes said there would be.

After listening dozens of times, the real genius of the song (besides the melody, harmonies, and cool bassline) is in the drums. So understated and jazzy, but also rocking at the same time. Howdeedodat?
