Grizzly Bear Make Their UK TV Debut On Jools Holland
Grizzly Bear finally broke the telly-glass ceiling last night. Via Ed's Twitter account of the evening, we know one song went live, with two more recorded for Friday's extended show. First up is "Two Weeks," which is a good choice for a first impression. Welcome to Veckatimest, The UK.
UPDATE: And here's "While You Wait For The Others."
Veckatimest is an album. That isn't even out yet. The band is set for a return to Letterman on May 20th.

SO lovely! I can't wait to see what they bring to Letterman!
Score = 4
READY ABLE, READY ABLE!!! Can I get a cyberchant going?
Score = 8
So Sloppy!
Score = -28
Wow. There are some serious pitch problems in the vocals. Is this what passes for "harmonizing" these days? No wonder y'all like the Vivian Girls, too.
Score = -34
perfection is overrated and boring at times
Score = 3
Wow, John, you need to go back to harmony school. That was absolute perfection. Timeless.
Score = 0
Too bad its not as good as you-know-who.
Score = -16
Typical crap as usual.
Score = -35
who?
Score = 1
I hate you all. This was wonderful.
Score = 18
Go Grizzly Bear Go! this is simply beautiful performance. i love you guys.
Score = 6
*obligatory post to talk about pitch problems by people who haven't listened to any live Beach Boys, Four Freshmen, Blind Boys of Alabama or Temptations tracks in a while to understand that even the best groups have off days and even when they have off days it still makes for a good performance so maybe it's not the end of the world*
Score = 22
^^^^^^^^^^
agreed.
Fucking beauty performance.
Score = 3
While I'm not insanely partial to a great deal of the Grizzly catalog, this will probably be my favorite song of the year.
Score = 7
I couldn't agree more. Not all of their songs are appealing to me but this one is just amazing
Score = 0
I think it's pretty clear they were just very nervous. It ended up sabotaging the whole performance really. Chris Taylor's vocals were off, and he comes in a measure early later in the song. It's alright, they're almost always far better than this, just a case of the nerves in this environment.
Score = 3
Listened to plenty of Beach Boys and Temptations live in my day, and it's laughable that indiedom feels it necessary to compare Grizzly Bear, a band with a couple of memorable songs, to these groups. This was a mediocre performance by a thoroughly average band!
Score = -30
Fuck you and your Petsounds. The Beach Boys were just the Monkeys with schizophrenia -- stealing from The Beatles like every other band from that era.
On that note, thought the song was good, but not so hot on Grizzly Bear.
Score = -9
Okay debbie downers, I really don't think this is bad.
Score = 2
i think they were just nervous...it's understandable. i think they did great.
Score = 1
I heard Animal Collective never has gotten nervous for a show. What professionals.
Score = 7
animal collective? ANIMAL COLLECTIVE!
Score = -2
Does anybody else think that Chris Bear is a way better drummer than he gets credit for?
Score = 14
i do. Especially in this performance his tempo is seamless.
Score = 3
totally totally totally.
Score = 1
hell yeah.
i've been sayong that all along.
i love the way he emphasizes the odd beats. it gives it so much soul.
btw the real version of the performance is up on their website.
Score = 0
What the hell's going on here? Has the backlash started already? There was nothing wrong with the performance.
Score = 12
I thought the performance was pretty okay, but I do love that guys drumming. For a band that's supposedly lush, it was pretty minimal, and maybe not in a way that served the song very well. Is it okay to think Grizzly Bear's kinda okay?
Score = -1
who cares what they sound like?
Score = -2
This was so much better than the letterman performance. Fucking amazing performance. Grizzly Bear haters are going to have a very exhausting year of hating!
Score = 3
it was hardly all that off, you guys are freaking out over some really minor issues. And yes Chris is the best drummer in Indie Rock. Anyone else notice they switched to a less prominent w sound in the oh harmonies then they used to do?
Score = 0
The people complaining came here specifically to complain regardless of the song or performance. Actually this is a much better sounding performance to the Letterman one and was really quite good for live TV. It's funny how every band has a good 10 trolls that need to leave negative comments on blogs all the time. Dirty Projectors. TVOTR. Hold Steady, Animal Collective (yes even they have quite a few haters) and now Grizzly Bear.
Can't please everyone. Especially the whiny bitches
Score = 2
I very much enjoyed the camera angels and each person got a little spotlight, especially Chris Bear--he does not deserve to be unnoticed, but is definitely the most overlooked musically in the group. hopefully this will change! love them. looks like they had the jitters, but who wouldn't when you're on live television? they are still wonderful and there have other live performances which have been absolutely phenomenal of Two Weeks, so I'm not that worried about this.
Score = 1
I used to leave anonymous negative comments about this band. I've since grown up and realized the error of my ways. That was awesome.
Score = 12
it was totally awesome! T didn't come in at the wrong time, that's how it is in the radio edit! Ed's voice sounded sooo much better than in the letterman one and yes Bear's drumming is PERFECT!
Score = 3
THEY RULED. unbelievable group of extremely talented individuals.
Score = 3
Regardless of nerves, Ed sang great and looked quite handsome while doing so.
Score = 1
I'll give them their due it was a good performance and the guy has a good voice. But all these new bands sound like prog rock. Is it 1974 again? Who'd have thought it would make a comeback? I know some Emerson, Lake, and Palmer records you guys would dig.
Score = 6
I've observed several posts where a band is judged on one performance. I know quick disposal is the "it" thing for the web but Grizzly Bear are here to stay. This isn't a case of a stylized hype band that is on the cover of NME and washing dishes the next day.
Score = 1
Emerson, Lake, and Palmer are mystics.
Score = -2
I'm really appreciating the irony of "Evaluation Copy" being laid over a song from a famously very-early-leaked album.
Score = 1
very bad quality too
Score = 0
Why don't they play Ready, Able or Southern Point :(
Those songs are much more exciting, but I understand they want to perform the most poppy song.
Score = -1
lets start some criticism and anger here.....hmmmm
I think Veckamist is going to easily be the best record of the year, based off what I've heard of it (Ready,Able and Two Weeks and Cheerleader) I'm just really excited about this record.
Score = -1
Chris Bear > You
Score = 3
that lead singer chap has an incredible voice. incredible.
Score = 2
Amazing. I really hope they play while you wait for the others on letterman
Score = -1
Victoria Legrand of Beach House is the high oohs in the studio song, so this is quite impressive that Chris Taylor does the vocals so well. Can't wait to see their energy live at the Fillmore ("one of my favorite venues ever" - Chris Walla)
Score = -1
Who is the fifth guy off to the left during "two weeks"?
What is that touch-pad like thing Ed moved his finger across at the end of "two weeks"?
Comment: Overall pretty good, under the circumstances. I guess British TV is more nerve wracking then other venues, but there was definitely a brown note played at 3:47 by Mr. Taylor. To my ears it sounded like a foible, but it gave the set some character. I enjoyed the live-wire slickness/rawness of this.
Score = -1
I believe that would be an omnichord.
Score = 0
The clavinet player (the "fifth guy off to the left") is the incredibly talented (and quite handsome) Robert Stillman.
Score = 0
Does anyone know if they've even played "Southern Point" live yet?
Score = 0
I'm not a huge fan, but these guys are growing on me, slowly.
Score = -1
you stole my line: you leave me dry.
Score = 1
They definitely seem nervous:

Score = 0
why all the hate? simply don't listen if you don't like. there are thousands of other musicians out there who are probably better but not writing or performing a lick!!!
Score = 1
pretty sloppy
Score = -2
I have something similar to what he is using on Two Weeks called a "Q Chord" but it looks like the "Omnichord" is a similar device. It is fun to use and I am surprised that more bands do not utilize it.
Score = 0
i prefer "for you" by michael w. smith. same chords, better song
Score = 0
oh please @ accusations of sloppiness.
"sloppy grizzly bear performance" = performance of a lifetime by a most indie musicians.
