Hey Venus! De Live Show

Thought Dan Deacon had a monopoly on awkward white-kid bouncing? Well,
peep this semi-grainy footage of Super Furry Animals frolicking through a four-night stand at Cardiff, Wales' Clwb Ifor Bach (yes, we spelled that right ... we think) and see the five Welshmen give Baltimore's less-than-furry son a bump for his money. The shows ostensibly gave Gruff Rhys and company a chance to test tracks from their forthcoming, eighth album Hey Venus! . When you've been around four almost fifteen years, might as well revisit the past, right? Yup, that's the spirit: Watch the Steely Dan-sampling "The Man Don't Give A Fuck" (below) mingle with fresh 'n' forthcoming material like jammy mid-tempo ballad "The Gift" and first single "Show Your Hand," a slice of
Turtles-sounding psychedelia. If that's not enough SFA, hop over to
the band's MySpace for the studio version of "Show Your Hand."

Gruff don't give a fuck...

Hey Venus! is out 8/27 on Rough Trade. Take the jump for tracklist and super crazy album art.

The full Hey Venus! track list:

01 "The Gateway Song"
02 "Runaway"
03 "Show Your Hand"
04 "The Gift"
05 "Neo Consumer"
06 "Into The Night"
07 "Baby Ate My Eight Ball"
08 "Carbon Dating"
09 "Suckers"
10 "Battersea Odyssey"
11 "Wolves"

confirmation as to why this is my favorite band in the world! This guys are so amazing live it's ridiculous. Nobody gives a shit about them but the really set a standard as to what a group of a few guys is capable of producing.

So they hired that clown from Jane's Addiction to do their cover art? I guess they really *don't* give a fuck etc.

I love SFA, seen them in concert many times and can't get enough of this bit from their shows. Classic. In my opinion they have been consistently putting out great albums since day 1....until 'Hey Venus!' People, this album is extremely pedestrian and, can't believe I'm going to say this, kind of dull. I don't know what happen but everything from the songwriting to the production is blah. Can't win 'em all I suppose. I still love them and hold out hope for the next one.

Wrote some words about the album a couple of weeks back: http://areyougenehackman.blogspot.com/2007/07/first-impressions-of-hey-venus.html

Baby Ate My Eight-Ball is the most hooray! of the lot, I think, but after repeated listens, I'm disappointed. Away from the slow-but-pleasant, boys!
