High Fidelity The Musical's Top Five Break-Ups

The Dylan musical was oh-so-bad that we all forgot about that other abysmal Broadway bastardization: High Fidelity the musical! That interview was embarrassing and the songs terrible, but please, reserve judgment until you watch their promo music video for "Desert Island Top Five Breakups" at TopFiveBreakups.com.

Okay, you may now resume laughing and pointing hysterically at that crap fest.

Did you catch the MisShapes' backpack posters about thirty seconds in? Sorta fitting.

Honestly, it wasn't as bad as I imagined.

My biggest problem is that I can't see Rob as a Broadway lead, and Dick and (especially) Barry wouldn't be caught dead in a Broadway musical.

remember in Reality Bites when ben stiller has that party to show Winona's video and the montages they put together are all cut MTV style with bad editing and goofy subtitles?

yeah, that clip was a little like that.

Dear lord... that video was blasphemy. It almost made me cry. I still can't figure out who thought that was a good idea.

Oh no. That makes me sad. I went to college with that actor, Will. He's really a talented musician and singer, but that... hmm... not his finest hour. Although it's more a reflection on bad material than his talent. I just hate that he took it. He was also in Lennon, the musical. I think that closed really quickly, too. I just wish he could do Sweeney Todd over and over. He was amazing in that!

i don't know how these broadway things work, but does Hornby sign off or get paid on the rights or something. If I were him I would have sold it too, fully knowing that this thing was destined to suck. The first 30 seconds don't look that bad but then it just devolves from there. Plus the casting looks like shit. Maybe the movie has ruined how I would cast it in my mind but the Rob guy and all the girls look completely wrong for their respective roles.

I actually saw the musical in Boston before it opened in NYC, and I'll be honest - it was okay. It wasn't a groundbreaking musical, and I didn't expect it to change the world, but it didn't deserve the horrific reviews it ended up getting. The theatre scene is simply ruthless, and once something gets bad buzz...

Some of the songs were good, some of the scenes were hilarious and very clever. The set was AMAZING. Some of the actors were wonderful. But, you could see the look of pain and horror and resignation on their faces and hear the shame in their voices sometimes. It was sadly, awful overall.

The show was actually pretty good, give or take a Bruce Springsteen daydream or two. I wonder how many of the naysayers on this page have actually SEEN the show, including the creator of this blog...
