Huey Lewis & The News Take "Pineapple Express" To Kimmel

We've already talked about Team Apatow's recruitment of Huey Lewis to contribute to the Pineapple Express soundtrack, that the film's co-writer/star Seth Rogan was said to be hoping for a "Power Of Love" vibe. Success? Well, when we linked to the song, one commenter noted "pretty bland" while another was kinder, but basically said the same thing:

the song isn't great--it's not as great as power of love, for instance (and nowhere near heart of rock n roll or i wanna new drug), but they definitely got the vibe of power of love.

On Friday, Lewis delivered those vibes live on Jimmy Kimmel.

Off-key, Huey. (Yes, this soundtrack song is better.)

The Pineapple Express soundtrack is out 8/5 via Lake Shore. There's a special MySpace page for it. Pineapple Express proper is in theaters 8/8.

no one talking about how amazing it is that: 1. a movie has a theme song. 2. they hired huey lewis to write and perform it. 3. they are having him play it live and people are dancing and clapping to it.

Oh no... please don't tell me that today's dumb kids actually think that Huey Lewis and the News was ever a credible band. In his novel "American Psycho", Bret Easton Ellis made the serial killer yuppie protagonist a huge Huey Lewis and the News fan to illustrate his lack of humanity.

Oh no... please don't tell me that today's pretentious kids actually think they need to deny the fact that Huey Lewis and the News' songs are totally catchy and entertaining.

Oh no... please don't tell me that you're using that tired, lame "it's just entertaining pop!" excuse. Phony indie kids have been using that bullshit excuse for decades to justify liking terrible disposable mainstream music. Ten years ago, I remember pseudo-hipster assholes saying the exact same thing about groups like The Spice Girls. I guess you wouldn't be aware of that though, considering that you probably got into "indie rock" two years ago when TV told you it was okay to like.
