Isaac Brock & Broken Social Scene Show Us "The World At Large"
There are so many people in Broken Social Scene that an extra body onstage might go unnoticed. Well, if that extra body didn't have the very distinctive voice of Isaac Brock. The Modest Mouse teamed up with BSS recently at Toronto's Sound Academy to do a solid Canadian version of Good News for People Who Love Bad News's "The World at Large." Judging from the clapping and occasional singing-along, it turns out Broken Social Scene fans are also Modest Mouse fans.

In other Broken Social Scene news, the band still loves chocolate.

I was at this show - they also played 'The Good Times Are Killing Me' & 'Paper Thin Walls' with Isaac, plus he joined them on guitar for Brendan Canning's 'Love Is New.' Such an amazing surprise, & the place went bonkers for Isaac & for Emily.

Modest Mouse and BSS...ahhh. Life is good.

that venue is crap!
they banished anyone that wanted to drink to the very back of the venue
after making us wait in line for more than half an hour
bss & their management should have known better then to have book themselves at such a shitty venue, they're from toronto it's not like they don't have a clue about the venues of the city
2 nights too, they played that horrible venue 2 nights in a row
boo bss boo sound academy
Score = -1
It's true, Sound Academy is basically the worst venue on earth. So far out of the way, with shitty layout, sound, sightlines, everything... But at this point BSS's options are pretty limited for hometown shows. People got pissed when they played Koolhaus as well, but the truth is this city has no decent really-big-but-not-arena-sized venues. They could play Massey Hall, but it'd be seated and a very different vibe, or else what? 8 nights at Lee's Palace? Three weeks at Sneaky Dee's? Hope you caught Broken in the earlier days at tiny T.O. venues, (or this summer's secret Dakota Tavern gig), cause this is what we're dealing with now. Don't hate on the band, it's a big problem in this city.

I would love to see Modest Mouse play a really-big-but-not-arena-sized show here in Seattle. Alas, their days of playing the Showbox are lost gone.

I guess it's good and bad that I didn't go to either of the shows in Toronto, though I was planning on it. That team-up is pretty awesome considered. It's also good that Emily is around because Feist is just being a big, bitchy diva now. Emily's always been better anyway.

That was great. So glad I missed out on this show, but my friend was there, and said it was great.

you're glad you missed the show?

This show was pretty fucking great I have to say. I certainly thought the Sound Academy was a better venue than the Kool Haus, transportation excluded. Anyways, isn't it worth it to stand outside and ...gosh... not drink at the bar to see BSS with Isaac Brock anyways? Call me old fashioned...
