Jesse Sykes Live From Juan's Basement

A few of our friends lately have been talking up Juan's Basement, a Daytrotter-esque destination for indie bands, only in Brooklyn. And in a basement. And with video. Juan's latest installment features the coarse-fibered lullabies of gothic-country troubadour Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter (with ex-Whiskeytown Paul Wandscher on guit!), whom we got excited about a few months back. She performed for the show a set including album standouts "LLL" and "The Air Is Thin," Juan's cinematographic touch giving the clips that dusty, instant-vintage feel -- a good fit for Jesse's spacey & western vibe.

Stream Jesse's entire album here.

But if it's video that you crave, head to the Juan's Basement site for a past session with Dr. Dog, performing "Worst Trip." Great programming, Plum TV. Which, by the way, is a station that exists only in like, the Hamptons and Aspen. Worth mentioning if only to visualize Plum's demo (i.e. rich folks) kicking back to Jesse Sykes and Dr. Dog.

Like, Love, Lust & The Open Halls Of The Soul is available on Barsuk.

got to agree with you Janea on Sykes Bright Eyes tour but I was pretty blown away by them with Sparklehorse in that there was a whole Neil Young early 70's Crazy Horse vibe that was coming out of the new material. It made me pick up the new album which I think is pretty damn good and I've converted a few others since. Thanks stereogum for posting this footage it's pretty cool as well as the Dr. Dog stuff you mentioned.
