Kanye, Jay-Z Debut Oasis-Dissing "Jockin'" At MSG

thumbnail icon: Kanye, Jay-Z Debut Oasis-Dissing "Jockin'" At MSG

The war of words between Noel Gallagher and Shawn Carter seemed to reach its apex when Jay-Z hit the Glasto stage (guitar)strapped and covering "Wonderwall." Until last night at MSG, when it became apparent the beef is not only undone, but the inspiration for a new track from The Blueprint 3. Oh, and there's going to be a Blueprint 3. After unplugging Jane the computer for a night at Lolla, Kanye resumed his "Glow In The Dark" tour in NYC, and closed it out by revealing his next production project and the new tune "Jockin'" with an assist from Hov. Opening salvo:

That bloke from Oasis said I couldn't play guitar / Someone should have told them I'm a fucking rock star /Today is gonna be the day that I'm gonna throw it back to you...

Haa. Thankfully Kanye had some nice video cameras on hand.

(via Kanye)

Hott. I guess "Big Brother" mended some fences? The Blueprint 3 is apparently in the works. Oasis apparently just got burned (again). Also and related, I stood next to Kanye during Saul Williams's set at Lolla. We had a quick chat and he told me, "Tell everyone I said hello." So, Kanye says hello everybody. Here's the back of his head.

Surprise. It's big.

You guys are killing me. "Past his prime" "Who cares"....
Jay-Z has been making hit records for over a decade, consistently.
This new song is stellar. Name one rapper that makes it look better/easier than this guy

If Jay-Z keeps talking about this, Noel may end up looking the best. Seriously, he squashed it, why are you still talking hov? Shut the fuck up. No one care anymore.

jay z= white corporate cRAP

i'm not sure if you've noticed, but jay-z is black. i think in order to be considered "white corporate crap", you must first be white. and jay-z has more skill than almost all the other rappers out there. i think everyone can attest to that.

No.
In order to be corporate white rap you must put out mindless hits for a white corporation. I'm sorry but Jay is terribly mediocre. IJust because he says he's the best doesnt make it true. Just because he sell albums doesnt make him any better than others who are a million times better.

"big pimpin" and "girls girls girls" are two of the most boring rap songs ever constructed for 15 year olds.

Oasis is boring too.

Mainstream hip-hop can be just as important if not better than other types. I like how you quoted some Immortal Technique previously, he's a good rapper- but to think of yourself as having better taste because you listen to I.T. and think Jay-Z is for 15 year olds (which I assume you mean it sucks, because anything for teenagers has to suck, right?) is just ignorant and ridiculous. If you can't get behind pumping some 'Big Pimpin' on a summer day and just enjoying it for what is, which is fun as hell feel good hip hop, then youre a pretentious music listener. I guess hip-hop needs to be about only REAL and RAW shit, like some gang initiation gone horribly wrong- I mean thats whats real. In summation: you're a prick.

"Sorry, Chuck D. is light years better than Jay-Z or anyone else you can think of."

I didn't mean 'better'. Throw around Rakim, Chuck D., Big Daddy Kane, Common, Big L, Nas, El-P, Gza, Kool G Rap, Biggie, etc. into a different conversation for best emcees or whatever...

I said who makes it 'look better/easier' than this guy. Slick Rick back in the day. Today, nobody touches Jay-Z's volume of hits, and the ease and enjoyment in which he does it.

The problem here is that neither of these guys have been relevant in quite some time. Although Jay Z's brush with fame ended a little later, neither artists are exactly on the top of their game. The problem with Jay Z trying to keep this beef going is that because he had a more recent hit (by recent I still mean years ago), it makes him look small by attacking Gallagher. Jay Z needs to learn the rule, "never punch down." The only thing this accomplishes is to bring Gallagher up to your level.

Umm.. heard of American Gangster? Maybe Roc Boys rings a bell?

Yeah... that was months ago. Granted, it's down a notch or two from his best work, but to say Jay-Z is "irrelevant" and his last hit was "years ago" is just plain wrong. Every time he releases an album he still has a hit (especially considering the current state of the industry). And making MSG lose its collective shit is generally a good sign that you are still relevant.

Jay-Z is at least one of the top 5 emcees of all time. I think most agree to that, at least those who can say they have a good understanding of the genre. But that's another point for another day on another post.

This song sounds pretty damn good to be a sorta-fishy live version with only one verse. It has an old-school feel, which are the kind of beats Jay generally sounds well over. I can only imagine his strained voice is more relieved in the recorded version. As for the actual article, I doubt this song is a full-fledged diss to Noel. I also doubt there will be another reference to him in the song. Jay-Z just covers several topics in fun-songs like these.

The beat is very Swizz Beatz. More unoriginality, as expected, from Kanye West.
