Kid Rock Wants You To Steal Everything

There's all sorts of tenable positions on piracy. For instance, there's situationally justified piracy, the "civil disobedience" of piracy, like when Trent Reznor opposed Universal's pricing scheme in Australia and retaliated by telling fans to steal his shit. Then there's just universally justified piracy, like what Kid Rock's all about in this PSA. Don't stop at an MP3. Steal everything.

Ah-HA. See what he did there? Kid was kidding. That piracy position is not tenable. Unteneable. It's the slippery slope fallacy. Actually he wants you to spend money. Just maybe not at iTunes.

Meanwhile department stores and car lots are not owned by billionaires, they are owned by shlubs that would miss the money. Apples and oranges. And weed.

I can't believe these major label morons whose bosses actually convinced them that they're losing money from piracy. I've got news for everyone: the only one taking a hit from piracy is the corporations themselves. Traditionally, the artist doesn't turn a profit from record sales unless we're talking about astronomical 8-10 million sales. The only ones losing money on record sales are underground artists who traditionally get a much larger cut of record sale profits.

Even if it's an indie artist, I have no moral qualm with downloading their music for free. What kind of fucking elitist moron actually believes that having lots of extra money should be a prerequisite to being an avid music fan?

while what your saying might have a little bit of truth to it, that 8-10 million number is way off.

Why is it always the washed-up artists who speak out the loudest against music piracy? It was the same with Metallica... their record sales started slipping because they alienated their fanbase, but their record label convinced them that they were selling less because of piracy. If Kid Rock isn't selling records, it sure as fuck has nothing to do with piracy. I doubt that most people would even DOWNLOAD one of his aural turds.

k

That was funny. Hilfiger jeans / clothes never fit right anyway - so that section of "borrowing" I would dismiss. But are iPods really a Microsoft product?

what a moron. i hate people like this. downloading from legit programs like itunes actually HELPS artists. it can lead to bigger album sales for the near future. he should do his research before speaking aloud. for example has he ever considered a place to recognize indie artists? probly not. i'm sure he hasn't taken the time to consider that issue and how some bands/musicians are actually growing due to places like the IMAs (independent music awards). this is why i support indie artists more than major label folk. retarded

Anyone read this Wired article that came out yesterday? He says the same thing as in the video but more, and the Wired writer seemed to think he legitimately hates iTunes but thinks illegal P2P is okay. I can't tell if the writer just didn't get his sarcasm or whether Rock just has no idea what he's saying.

Would Hot Topic be pissed if I stole me one of those awesome GOD shirts you're rocking, Kid? Or is Hot Topic not corporate enough? Where does one draw the line?

Sure for the spelling mistake "potential" im just a white trash retard myself

Lets make it clear that I would never purchase a Kid Rock album in the 1st place so we are talking about "potential" revenue - this is assuming I was going to buy it - which of course I never would. So given that I was never going to buy it and Kid Rock wasnt going to get a single cent from me, I download it for free. One day I am blasting this fresh new turd from Kid Rock in my Trans-Am and some white trash retard hears it and asks me what that rank smell is that is coming from my speakers. I tell him its the hot new turd from Kid Rock - and he goes straight to the store and purchases a copy. So by me stealing (or "advertising") Kid Rocks fresh new turd, he made money from me stealing his record.

Downloading Kid Rock's music for free is the internet equivalent of going to K Mart to shoplift a pair of Spalding sneakers.
