Kid Cudi & Ratatat Bring "Pursuit Of Happiness" To Letterman

thumbnail icon: Kid Cudi & Ratatat Bring "Pursuit Of Happiness" To Letterman

On Friday, Kid Cudi brought "Pursuit Of Happiness," a Ghostbusters t-shirt, and Ratatat (sans MGMT) to David Letterman. This live take on Man On The Moon's lit third single also comes with a trio of sharp-dressed backup singers, strings, and expressive soloing via Mike Stroud. Letterman knows what's up, rightly commenting there was "a lot going on there," though he can't quite figure out which way the psychedelic album art goes.

Man On The Moon: The End Of Day is out 9/15 via G.O.O.D./Universal Motown.

The whole song is one gigantic mediocre hook. This song is dying for some rhymes. What a waste of a great track from Ratatat.

ratatat have great tastes in making instrumentals, but in my opinion, horrible tastes in M.Cs. they need to collaborate with the hiero crew or something.

Unless you mistake it for Queen.

Why is everyone hating on this song and Kid Cudi? I think it's sweet that solid hip-hop artists like Cudi are teaming indie artists like Ratatat and MGMT. On his old Mixtape he sampled LCD Soundsystem and Band of Horses...Man on the Moon is an enjoyable album. People need to relax.

haha wow are you kidding me, ratatat and hiero would not go together at all. kid cudi and ratatat make awesome tracks. this song isn't even bad but alive and heaven at nite are amazing. and just because hieroglyphics is a sick act, doesnt mean that putting them on a ratatat beat would match. nonetheless hiero has been one of my favorite hip hop crews but you have to give credit to cudi. hes a great up and coming rapper

Thought it was wobbly crap rap at first (nearly closed the youtube clip), but as the song progressed, his voice steadied, the lyrics gained depth, and the chorus seeped in, I found myself actually enjoying it, a lot. I even hummed at one point. Even the string section at the end managed to avoid being totally cheesy. Think I've replayed the performance a good six times now.

i think the argument daver is suggesting is that kid cudi is signed to a major (Universal) where as ratatat would be better off collaborating with independent hip-hop artists i.e. hiero, quannum, rhymesayers, def jux. weren't despot and ratatat supposed to release a mixtape soon?

being a gtr player myself, it's always awkward when he/she has to step into the center of the stage for the BIG SOLO lol

its a nice song! don't know why people are going out of there way to hate on it. i think its a nice hook, and i find the eighth grade lyrics kind of endearing. he performs well, too.

May not be a difficult song to perform but Cudi and Ratatat did a good job, very comparable to the studio version.

Great performance. Can't knock the clarity of the track live, who the hell sounds good on late night talk shows?!?!?! Can't name a lot.... So in my eyes, great performance, great song, good luck Cudi!

I thought this song was fabulous, both the Letterman version and the version on the album.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! i am so happy that these two factions teamed up to make such a beautiful creation .. very sad to see that people's tastes SUCK so bad as to make negative comments on this song (even though i do respect other's opinions, even if they are tasteless and warped:-).. i mean what else can you ask for.. yeah maybe a guy parachuting in through the sky light in would change the hater's minds... come on .............. this is just the beginning Ratatat and Cudi are just scratchin the surface of their voltron-like teamup .. im excited ........
Everything that shine isnt gold!!!!!!!!!!!!
