Killers Soundtrack Sex Trafficking PSA

thumbnail icon: Killers Soundtrack Sex Trafficking PSA

The Killers teamed up with UNICEF, MTV EXIT, and the US AID (like Radiohead before them) to create this full-length David Slade-directed "Goodnight, Travel well" anti-sex trafficking clip. It works on one level as a video for the Day & Age track, but was created "to raise awareness about sex trafficking," not the Killers. As UNICEF notes:

There is almost no country in the world now that isnt affected by human trafficking in some way, said UNICEF Chief of Child Protection Susan Bissell. The statistics are staggering. More than 1.2 million children are being trafficked each year and nearly 80 per cent of all trafficking is for sexual exploitation, and the most at risk are girls.

Right, this probably isn't the time or place for Brandon Flowers jokes (or for Flowers to chew the scenery, natch). Darker fare than the band's usual visual accompaniment.

You can get more info at UNICEF.

Pretty disturbing...but the reality is this issue will continue to go unnoticed in the mainstream even with The Killers music...

Someone should do a PSA about how listening to the Killers makes you pretty lame.

Just for the record...the song was written by Brandon for Dave's Mother who has already passed.

Also, why is it lame if something good (awareness) comes out of something bad (Dave's mothers passing) as long as it was ok with the band and ultimately Dave who I am sure is effected by it (the song) most?

Worst thing is that video Makes the situation even more palatable than it really is... a lot of the girls being exploited and sold, sometimes by their parents, are much younger than the women in this video. The situations are also way beyond easy answers Poverty and Gender roles defined by culture play a big part. There are bad guys of course, the problem is there are far more than people are willing to admit, Governments should be held accountable including my own. it'd be impossible for me to tally how many perverts western countries send abroad on sex tours to places in Southeast Asia and Latin America to name just a couple. Perverts who are "well respected" where they come from and almost get a pass in some countries as far a the laws go for many complex and sad reasons.

let me start by saying that sex trafficking is a horrible thing and it's good to see a PSA attempting to bring awareness to it. i hope it helps to put an end to a serious problem that affects millions of lives.
but come on...no one kisses a hooker that much.
