Last Call With Carson Daly Gives Us Little Joy

thumbnail icon: Last Call With Carson Daly Gives Us Little Joy

Read that any way you wish and you will be bingo. Fab Moretti's side project made their network debut on the NBC-funded public service to insomniacs that is Carson Daly last night. "No One's Better Sake" is a great song, a summery Strokes-on-the-beach jam, and the Fab crew made great work of it here. Moretti is little more than a figurehead standing at the mic with his acoustic (I can't really hear his voice), but still he gets screengrab honors because the only way you're allowed to sound so Strokesy is if you have a Stroke in your band. Lesson learned, Stroke wannabes.

Little Joy - "No One's Better Sake" (MP3)

Little Joy is out via Rough Trade. And speaking of day jobs ... Strokes album in '09? Maybe?

It doesn't sound that much like the strokes, except for when he keeps saying "what are we waiting for."
Otherwise, it sounds more like rockabilly with a little island vibe. And the vocals remind me of an old Christmas song that I can't put my finger on.
It isn't bad, but the video is sort of boring.
IMO

The Little Joy album was probably 2008's most overlooked.

The Silversun Pickups' week long stay on Last Call in '07 was pretty nifty in my book.

And why does no one seem to like the Albert Hammond album(s)?

I saw them live toward the beginning of December and they were quite fun.

This is one of my favorite morningtime albums. Binki has quite a voice on her too.

The three of them seem to reallllly have fun together too, based upon when they were in our studio for a Rehearsal Space interview.

THis album is 10 times better than the last one of the strokes, and still, very few put it in the best lists of 2008. For me the strokes can go on eternal hiatus as long as Little Joy keeps doing albums like this one... though I know that´s not going to happen.. :-(

I just happened to catch the last 3/4 of this performance the other night and i thought that i would have to go to the show's site to find out who they were, then i forgot about it. Now today i catching up on all the posts i missed and it made me think i should really go find that band i heard on carson daily's show and then bam! I come across your post about them... eerie

yes, great album and should have had more press, but hey, the true wonderful part is knowing about it yourself.

Sounds like a mix of Bob Marley and the Wailers, Vampire Weekend and, of course, the Strokes. This album was incredible!
