Lily Allen Brings "The Fear" to The Tonight Show With Jay Leno

thumbnail icon: Lily Allen Brings "The Fear" to The Tonight Show With Jay Leno

As noted after Lily's stop at Bowery Ballroom last week, a good chunk of It's Not Me, It's You is given over to directly textual, emotional confessionals wrapped in melancholic (and occasionally drab) electro-pop garb. If she wasn't so charming, those stretches in the show would have drowned in a sorry sea of boring/sad. But she is charming, and It's Not Me, It's You has some moments where the synths meet the cheek in full stride. First single "The Fear" is an example, and a winning shift away from Alright, Still in sound though not in tone: Lily being clever and funny, playing The Satirist with stuff (celebrity, money, weight gain) that should hit pretty close to her (gated) home. It's a balancing act. Anyway she brought the song to Leno last night, dressed in the glam mode of her targets, and you can see she's looking just fine toeing the irony line. Also Jay is in the home stretch of his time at The Tonight Show, before he steps on Conan's dreams/creates potential in-house guest-booking wars at the 10PM slot every night. He seems thrilled (he does not seem thrilled).

Bitter-toss-to-Conan much, Jay? You're going to be just fine and rich. Chin up. (Zing intended.) It's Not Me, It's You is out.

I dream of a hard night of partying in town where Lilly Allen will drunkenly fall into my arms.

I think this is Conan's last week, but Jay is running until May on the Tonight Show.

Lilly Allen never really caught my ear, but this is catchy as hell. First verse is splendid.

The fear was one of my picks of a hit for Lily Allen. I COULD SAY was another choice. It's not me it's you has a good chance of breaking the U.S. market because even though she's a tabloid darling Lily Allen is not a manufactured pop star, and that's exactly what America needs. From J-lo to Hillery Duff and anybody that was a victim of American Idol (that show is a joke)It's tiring to be told what you like, or why you shouldn't like it. Make a Choice!

Liked the song and performance, but it sounded like she was singing to a backing track.

I remember meeting her face to face at coachella two years ago and could not believe how much more gorgeous she looked as opposed to tv or pictures... have had a crush on her since...

Seems like she had to tone down her performance as well as her lyrics.
what is that little shuffle thing she does?

at any rate, I dont care if its whiny or w/e, i think she performs sincere and catchy songs.

Good, but whenever I see the title of this song it makes me miss Pulp.

Charming? Obviously you are looking at a different performer than I am Amrit. This girl is just cheek, not much else. Satirist? You give this person a lot more credit for brains and wit than she deserves.
