Lollapalooza '07: My Morning Jacket Perform "What A Wonderful Man"

The last of our promised table scraps from this year's party in Grant Park comes courtesy of the ever-great My Morning Jacket. Jim and the guys clearly were out to class up the fest this year, but performing with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra simply wasn't enough for MMJ: Mr. James went the distance sporting a closely cropped coif, closing the set with a killer swing through Curtis Mayfield's"Move On Up," the band rocking the crowd outfitted in purple tuxes (yes, we believe purple tuxes = classy). The orchestra joined a few songs into the set, and alas, our vid captures a performance prior to the symphony's accompaniment. Still, it is "What A Wonderful Man," and it's bound to please. Enjoy.

In case you have a life and weren't frantically checking the site this weekend, click here and kill some time with pretty pictures.

Way to go Shitgum! Actually reporting about a rockin band and an actual performance. That's actual news!!
Then, in typical Shitgum form, you go and diss your readers who might consider your site a music news outlet at a festival they couln't attend. What were they thinking?

Got to see Jim at the Belly Up in San Diego for The Craft. That thing MGD and the R&R Hall of Fame are doing.

Played a few new songs but they don't show any at The Craft website.

For all the (merited) love of My Morning Jacket around here, how come no mention of Mont de Sundua? A whole new Jim James record... come on where's the blog love? Or did I just miss the coverage, even though I do not have a life?

P.S. Seriously, can ya'll readers not take even one trite little joke at your expense?

MMJ and Spoon were IMO the best sets of the fest. (I should mention I sadly missed smaller stage stuff like Apostle of Hustle and Annuals.)

Premature Evaluation: Beck - Modern Guilt
