Lykke Li Visits Late Night

thumbnail icon: Lykke Li Visits Late Night

Artist To Watch Lykke Li gave Americans the first opportunity to watch her on late night TV last night. The buzz Swede visited Studio 6A, where she performed icy dance pop tune "Breaking It Up" with an invisible choir. Looks like Lykke won over Conan with her megaphone and patented wacky moves. Of course you may have been otherwise engaged, so here's what you missed.

For your Labor Day BBQ playlist:
Lykke Li - "Little Bit" (MP3)
Lykke Li - "Little Bit" (Loving Hand Remix) (MP3)

Youth Novels recently got a stateside release on Atlantic, and Ms. Li will be taking it on tour this fall. Itinerary at LySpace.

Fuck the megaphone! It was a nice gimmick when I saw her live a few weeks back but now it's just annoying!

I'm thinking it's Luke-AY Lee. At least that's what the drunk Swedish dude at the CC Club told me.

I don't get the fascination with her. I suppose she's cute, but I don't think she can sing for shit and I'm not into her songs at all. Different strokes...

That's an unfortunate national TV debut!
– I've seen her twice live and she's put on extremely impressive performances... and sang on key. The megaphone doesn't help this song. It's odd that her two live recordings; this and the iTunes London Festival represent her so poorly.

To the naysayers she's worth a second shot. And Conan pronounced her name correctly – lik ee lee

I had already heard like one song of hers and I downloaded the mp3 in this post... she doesn't sound as bad as in the video!

Guess it's just another "studio artist"

So I downloaded "I'm Good, I'm Gone", the original "Breaking it Up", "Dance Dance Dance", added to like 8 plays of "Little Bit", and I think it sounds fairly good and interesting to be pop.... definitely better than Robin!

She deserves another chance.

Does anyone else thinks her falsetto sounds like the chick from High Places?

Wow! (not the good wow)... sweden has officially run out of good music... to the outskirts they go, looking for young farm girls that went from galloping on pigs to singing in the studio... her new album should be called pig farms in sweden... lick that lickee!!

The Y in 'Lykke' is a sound not found in the English language, I'm afraid, so please don't even try. 'Lykke' means, roughly speaking, 'happiness', and with the suffix '-lig' (pronounced, like 'Li', 'lee') you have the adjective 'happy'. Neither 'Lykke' nor 'Li' are names. So basically, her name is apun without the double entendre.

You're right about the Swedish "y". It's not found in the English language, but it can be found simply by going halfway from "ooo" to "eee". Then apply you'r "yyy" where needed!

As for Lykke and Li, they are both real names.
There are 393 women called Lykke in Sweden, and 2017 with the first name Li.

Lykke and Li are both her real names.
So is Timotej ("Timothy grass"), by the way.
And with her father calling himself "ZilverZurf", I guess I could buy your theory about her name being a pun ...

Nice to watch someone being somewhat original for a change, american music ran out of that a looong time ago.

The megaphone reminds me of Tom Waits, but it amplifies her voice in just the right way.
