M83 Take "Kim & Jessie" To Conan

thumbnail icon: M83 Take "Kim & Jessie" To Conan

As well as a bunch of equipment. Amid the noise separators, headphones, and etc., M83's live incarnation's clunkier/more Musician looking than your average Sixteen Candles house band, but Anthony Gonzalez, flashing blue lights, and friends do a good job translating Saturdays=Youth's icily anthemic "Kim & Jessie" to Conan's stage. You can see for yourself at Hulu. (Note: At first it appears the second guitarist stole tourmate Brandon Flowers' shoulder plumage ... sadly, it's just a hooded jacket.)

M83 = irrelevant sell outs.

I see what you did there.

Seeing them Saturday at the Opry. Yes. With The Killers. Yes, I'm okay with that.

though that doesn't take anything away from how bad this band sucks...and this song...

Very cool! The performance was much better than I expected. In case anyone's interested, they actually chatted with us a bit about conan, the day before... http://flavorwire.com/8997/exclusive-m83s-anthony-gonzalez-preps-for-supersized-fame

really monumentally disappointing live band in my experience. love their albums, but they just don't have it live. anthony doesn't quite sing well enough, and all the peak moments of m83's albums (like the chorus of this song) with the explosion of synths-n-fuzz just can't be captured live by that one cymbal crash and some reverb-y guitars.

Pretty good live reproduction of the song, if you ask me.

Shame on Stereogum for not knowing who the second guitarist was. I know Mellowdrone isn't big or anything, but they're a good band. Hopefully playing with M83 gives Jon some good material ideas. Dude's band seriously needs to release another album.

I thought it was a good performance, too. Pretty close to record and all that.

The two bashers are probably Killers fans who can't accept the fact that M83 makes better music...

I've seen them live and thought they were pretty good; although there are a couple of songs that do suffer live, like asterisk.
