Make Beautiful Paper With Gwen Stefani

This one's for the children (with printers). That's right kids, starting today Hewlett Packard and Gwen Stefani are launching a joint venture to bring you into the always fashionable world of your favorite No Doubt breakout star and her Harajuku-oriented haute couture. Simply head to hp.com/gwen, get started customizing paper dolls, greeting cards, CD covers, etc. and download away. Perfect for your niece (and that's the perfect thing to tell your friends if they catch you clicking).

But that's not all! To continue this sweet escape, we've got a vid snippet of Stefani's collab with Damien Marley on "Now That You Got It." Last year's uneven solo release didn't turn out a lot that's withstood repeat listens, but we give this one (and the weird animation) a thumbs up. Unfortunately there's no printable Damien on that HP site, though you'd probably use up your printer cartridge recreating those natty dreads, mon.

We've come to a strange period in pop culture and I know it is not a big secret to anyone - no earth shattering revelation in saying that you can have market momentum even in spite of the product you're selling.

Stefani's "Sweet Escape" was a huge release even though it had weak songs, an opinion shared by critics and fans alike. Same critics and fans considered the title track only mildly diverting and expressed that the song's most prominent hooks quickly became irritating. That song was a major hit.

Add to this that mom-rockers were put off by some of the nasty language found on their "homegirl's" latest, but not enough to deter them from buying. Akon's controversies caused him to be separated from the tour but that didn't hurt the tour. For all of the negative aspects this release churned up, it has done amazingly well. Yes, No Doubt is back in the studio, but unlike most situations where a breakout solo star steals home again, Stefani didn't actually need it. I mean, I didn't hear one single lute solo on the disc; did you, Mr. Sting?

No one will be shocked by the implication f the force of celebrity. Still, I'm amazed by how far one can go even though all the pundits agree that what was offered was a softball pitch to the public.

That HP wants to align themselves to her marketing wizardry only solidifies the assertion.
