How cute, Mike Patton thinks people still know who he is.

More people can identify Mike Patton than they can Wolfmother. I love how some people think just because Patton's not in a high-profile band that he isn't as famous as Wolfmother.
Go to any college campus and survey all the kids you can find--most of them will probably not only know Patton over Wolfmother, they can tell you all about his side projects and his work with John Zorn.
Score = 1
wolfmother = great...cover band.
Please, he's just saying what anybody with taste is thinking when they see them live.
Score = 0
Whoa I've never heard Patton talk normally.. I always thought his voice would be deeper.
To the haters, get out from under your pop rock and go pick up Peeping Tom, it should be accessible enough for you.

Mike Patton sucks

I don't think anyone is saying Wolfmother is so great...I'm well aware they're simply mimicking better 70's bands.
But come on, Faith No More? It wasn't good when it was 'popular'.

mike patton is fucking genius... but i didn't really like peeping tom.... i like fantomas and mr. bungle...

Bottom line, Mike Patton is responsible for nu-metal. This I cannot forgive.

50 years from now Mike Patton will still be remembered as being one of many inventive musicians of our time.
2 years from now, Wolfmother will be forgotten.
Score = 4
I'm in college and I have no idea who Mike Patton is. I do know who Wolfmother is. As '70s knockoffs, they're alright for what they are. I am definitely not under a "pop rock" of any kind either, so that can't be to blame. Afterall, I am here at Stereogum. I just don't know who the hell he is.
You do that campus survey. I'd like to see the results.

Don't get me wrong, i liked Faith No More. But come on, they are not that great. People know Faith No More, but not what the lead singers name is. I happen to enjoy Wolfmother and their old sound. For all you mike patton fanatics? what the hell? you think he is innovative. Bull. He didnt join Faith No More until 1988. The band had 2 albums that sounded the same before he joined.
Score = -1
i think mike is hilarious.
Score = 1
how can people hate mike patton? he IS innovative and he speaks the truth! wolfmother blows. i had to stop watching them at lollapalooza. the 70's called and want their black sabbath rip-off band back. let's get some taste, folks.
Score = 2
In the grand scheme of music history, both Mike Patton and Wolfmother are pretty irrelevant.
I did see Wolfmother's "Love Train" video in Champs Sports today. Strange place for a Wolfmother video.

i'd like to tell you all about my new band peeping wolf. we are like a cross between black sabbath and faith no more. actually, we sound more like wolf mother with mike patton-like vocals. our main goal is to bring the fans of wolfmother and mike patton together. thus, forcing everyone to rate us favorably if anyone happens to take a poll about us on a college campus. we also hope to one day play at lollapalooza. i think we will be a relevant band for years to come.
Score = 1
I'm not the biggest fan of Wolfmother. But at the same time, as far as "the kids" are concerned, I'd rather that's what they get into than some horrible nu-emo garbage. Listening to Wolfmother would likely lead a young, impressionable music fan down an influence trail that would eventually point to Sabbath and Zeppelin. But what would listening to Panic at the Disco or My Chemical Romance lead to? What informs the sound of that sort of band other than similar bland, mall-punk crap?
Score = 0
dillinger escape plan - irony is a dead scene. best cd ever.
Score = 0
i dont hate Wolfmother, but thats no reason to lie about Patton like that, he's still among the most innovative, and the fact that you can only bring up Faith No More to trash him shows how little you know about anything.. Fantomas, Tomahawk, General Patton vs. the X-Ecutioners, Mr. Bungle, his work on Bjorks acapella album, and on top of this running Ipecac records...
to quote Xtina - you think you know, but you have no idea.
Score = 0
Right, Patton's talking about recording an album of 60s Italian music with an ORCHESTRA, but he's trashing Wolfmother.
I KNOW who Mike Patton is, and if he had not been identified for me in that clip, my reaction to HIM would have been, who the fuck is this guy?
You're done Patton, and have been for a long time. Step aside.

Excuse me, are you saying orchestra.driven music is bad music while crappy commercial, mainstream pop rock is good music? I see you know a shitload of music.

oh please... i've never been in a famous band, and i think wolfmother sucks. i guess my opinion doesn't matter then?... ok, maybe not. still doesn't change the fact that trying to emulate or copy a 'retro' sound - without adding anything new or contemporary to it - amounts to a little more than empty shtick... posturing at best.
wolfmother blows. and no, they're not the darkness II. at least the darkness had a sense of humour about themselves.

I have friends who swear Patton is a God - but I don't believe them. Fantomas, Tomahawk, and esp. Mr. Bungle get a huge "meh". Over-Rated clap-clap---clap-clap-clap.
As for Wolfmother - sounds pretty good to me. What's wrong with covering what you like? I say more Sabbath, more Kyuss, more of anything that puts you in the basement with your friends staring at ESPN classics in a haze of sweet, sweet smoke. If it leads the "kids" to Fu Manchu, then god bless 'em.

everything is right with mike patton.

This is seriously silly stuff. Comparing these two acts is like comparing Madonna with Britney Spears. One has an on-going career, influences genres and fans, constantly re-invents him/her-self and has been in the business for years. Not to mention running a label, collaborating and recording with other hugely influential artists spanning from all genres and seemingly not giving a shit what any one thinks in the process. To say that the “kids” of today don’t know who Mike Patton is, is both irrelevant and bares little weight in ones artistic merit. Half the bands people mention on this board are unknowns in the big scheme of things. The day that I, or any of you for that matter, base tastes, interests and validity on numbers is the day you are lying to yourself and everyone else. If this is going to be based on something as shallow as popularity well it ends up being the same result anyway since one artist has sold millions of records in one incarnation or another while the other is new to the game. I don’t hate Wolfmother by any means but jumping on some one because they don’t like another band is pretty damn ironic coming from a hip blog msg board. We hate everything!
Score = 1
I remember seeing Faith No More, before their big "hit" open for the RHCP (in their first incarnation) at the Orpheum in Boston. They closed their set with not one, but two Black Sabbath covers.
Don't know Wolfmother; don't follow Patton's career. And while I tend to agree we with him, it's not like he was always on the vanguard.

People who only mention Faith No More need to do their research. Even disregarding Pattons numerous other projects, FNM's Angel Dust still blows away Wolfmother.
That being said, I can still get down to Wolfmother. I don't think they are changing the face of music or anything incredible, they just do a really good job of emulating bands of the past.

Not a surprising reaction from Mike. He has also griped about how terrible Rage Against the Machine was...a group that took obvious cues from Faith No More! That said, I'm in the "Mike will be remembered, Wolfmother will be forgotten" camp. Rock on, Mike...and keep putting out challenging records!
Score = 0
the reason woldmother sucks is not because their sound is retro, which it is. there are plenty of good bands who do basically the same type of thing and who actually rock. no, the reason wolfmother sucks is because they can barely hack their way through songs which contain one simple, repetetive riff. c'mon, man! that guy needs to practice. he is an incompetent guitar player. he has difficulty playing and singing at the same time. i mean, tony iommi would take some fucking SOLOS and just kill it.
Score = 0
mike patton - i'll give him a thumbs up for being innovative, but at some point that innovation needs to lead to something enjoyable to listen to. lovage was tolerable, i want to say tomahawk was tolerable as well, hated pretty much the rest of it.
the best thing faith no more ever did was the covers - theme song from midnight cowboy, easy - smart choices.
wolfmother is what it is - fun, big riffs, big hair, enjoyable enough. yeah, everyone will probably have forgotten them in a couple of years, but they don't suck by any means.

doesn't matter if he's right (yes) or wrong, it's fun to watch someone react that way.

wow, you people are so fucking ignorant. I've never seen a bunch of retards like on this site. Mike Patton is one of the greatest musicians of all time, he has influenced countless people during his career and has NEVER released any album that was sub-par. He will go on to be remembered for the rest of eternity. THAT's how great he is.
Then you have wolfmother who are trying (poorly) to be a Black Sabbath rippoff. They have one shitty album out, with one shitty single and all these amazing "college" kids think they know anything about music just cause they never heard of Mike Patton, yet know who Wolfmother is? Wow, you guys are so enlightened, you know of a shitty flavor of the month band, but you don't know about a prominent figure in the music industry who has been around for more than 15 years. No one cares about your stupid opinion, cause chances are, if you don't know who Mike Patton is you are ignorant.
Wolfmother sucks
Patton's numerous projects are all amazing. He is the greatest. He really knows how to rock. He has changed the music industry forever. He will never be forgotten. He is forever. If you don't like it, it just means you don't get it. Well, I get it buddy, and "it" is amazing. Anyone saying Patton is "washed up", or that his career is "over" needs to check out all the new albums he has released in the past years, and the many more to come.
The guy knows what's up, I mean, he married an Italian woman and learned the language, he knows that Italy is the greatest country in the world (and the World Cup champs of 2006) and he wanted to be a part of it. No man is smarter than Mike Patton.
Wolfmother doesn't have a chance to reach 5% of the greatness Faith No More achieved. And Mike Patton, well, he's untouchable

Listen ya little wankers, you shouldn't be on this site if you don't know who Patton is. He is only one of the geniuses that has influenced everything modern you listen to today. So fine, you don't know who he is but don't make an ass out of yourself by exposing the truth of your ignorance. Read a book, peruse a site, ask the door guy at your local venue. I mean c'mon! Do your homework.

I gotta join the Patton camp on this one. Mike Patton is incredibly talented, can and has worked in every genre, and runs one of the better indie labels around. Wolfmother... I like Sabbath too. Which is why I own Sabbath records.

Love Patton or hate him, you have to admit he's an artist. Wolfmother are jumping on the irony bandwagon. Something which Andrew WK does so much better. Plus, listening to them in that clip, I think Mike Patton was offended by the vocals,as was I. That voice is terrible.

Well, Lovage is a hip-hop project. And you might want to add this to your hipster scorecard; Vice magazine gave Fantomas's last album a ten.
Plus, Roddy Bottum - Faith No More's keyboard player-was in a great indie pop band in the '90's called Imperial Teen. Score another one for the indie scorecard: Pitchfork approves

Every fucking thread is always "ohhhh, my music versus yours". Fine, Mike Patton doesn't like Wolfmother. Hes probably pissed because he can't talk about all of his 'cool projects' while a band is tearing it up onstage. I'd be pissed too.
Ok, yeah, Wolfmother is Black Sabboth's bastard son. In case you haven't noticed all the kids today, guess what "SUPER-COOL RETRO" shirts they're all wearing? All the classic rock -- Zepplin, BS, ACDC, etc. What Wolfmother is doing is making cash, and if you can't respect that, you're an idiot. Cash is wonderful, and whether or not they'll be around in 3 years, they'll probably have more money, have been more famous, and fucked more chicks then you will.
Patton isn't a god, but he is pretty fucking cool. I'll admit, I haven't heard every project hes done, but whatever. I enjoy his music, probably wouldn't wanna hang out with him, he seems like a dick.

God Bless Patton for putting out good music to combat all of the Wolfmothers and the retread/cover bands of the world. That Wolfmother guy has the shittiest voice - such an earsore.
And somebody give Peter DiStefano a job! (and not one as Panic Channel's 2nd guitarist)

Ok, Mike Patton isn't as famous as he used to be, because he doesn't want to be.
Faith No More, at one time, was on top of the world.
They could have done what RHCP did, and sell out after they got popular, but FNM did the exact opposite, and made an album that was way ahead of it's time.
He could do a bunch of mainstream music, and be even richer than he is, but he'd rahter do what he wants to do.
I'd never heard of Wolfmother before I saw this, so I can't really talk about them, but from what I heard an infant crying> Wolfmother.
Score = 1
Patton turned down INXS when they asked him to be their singer.
Patton turned down Velvet Revolver when they asked him to be their singer.
Patton turned down Korn when they asked Peeping Tom to play the Family Values tour.
For all you Patton haters - when you've had the opportunity to turn down shit like that, and take the high road of making GOOD MUSIC over making QUICK CASH, then you can smack-talk Mr. Patton. Until then, you can suck it.
Did I mention that a REAL 70s rock band, the Who, asked Peeping Tom to open for them at 7 dates in the US and Canada? Mmm, yeah. Not so much with Wolfsabbath. I mean Ledmother. Or was that Creamother or Wolfyuss? I don't remember. It doesn't matter. They don't matter. Patton is acclaimed worldwide as a forward-thinking, diverse, multitalented, self-taught master of music. Wolfmother is widely regarded as simple, safe, easy, and nothing more than purposefully retro.
When you step out of the limelight on purpose, set up your own label, and put out exactly what you want without a bunch of corporate suits molding your image or telling you what to do and how to do it, then you can criticize Patton. Until then your arguments show you as uneducated, fad-following simpletons with no taste or perspective.
Cheers!

Reducing Mike Patton to his work with Faith No More is like thinking of Radiohead as the band that did "Creep." Sure, he may not have had huge commercial success with his later stuff, but it's always challenging, new music.

Alright, so I'm old. Big whoop.
This bitchiness sounds like high school, when the debate was whether Iron Maiden kicked Judas Priest's ass, or if AC/DC would beat the snot out of Ozzy. I haven't heard Wolfmother, nor am I really jonesing to. Peeping Tom is disappointing, primarily because that was the running title for the Patton / Zorn collaboration. This ain't that.
But Faith No More was more than the progenitor of nu-metal, Tomahawk is good stuff and Fantomas is really incredible in the field of experimental rock. I give Patton credibility points overall. Does his opinion ultimately influence me? Not really. Neither do the endless debates over who "rock" and who "suck". Hollow dismissal means very little without some factual claim support.
And Patton was on Sepultura's "Roots" album, so nyaaah nyaaah.
(And Pinetop Seven beats them all)

First of all, blaming a musician for a glut of rotten bastard children who cite them as an influence is ridiculous. Blaming Patton for Nu Metal is like blaming Bill Gates for internet stalkers.
Also, what's with the hate for FNM? Patton is largely responsible for their huge maturation between The Real Thing and Angel Dust. As for Mr. Bungle, they were incredible, end of story.
As for FNM playing Black Sabbath songs earlier in their career, Patton had nothing to do with it, and he's expressed a complete indifference towards the band several times.
I'm always surprised when people use a band or musician's popularity in an attempt to support their side or to invalidate the opposite end. Come on, ad hominem.
There was also a comment about how Wolfmother's shameless cash grabbing attempts were perfectly respectable. What is music even for if you're doing it for money. There's nothing wrong with making money if your integrity is intact, but if you're out there for a buck then you're not an artist, you're a performer and a monkey.

Patton's got a lot of b*lls criticizing anything considering the horrific music he's put out after Faith No More. For all you people proclaiming your hatred for Faith no More: Patton is much more than a one hit wonder. He has been in COUNTLESS ammounts of other bands, and has appeared with more artists than half of you fucks can count to. Fantomas, Peeping Tom, Tomahawk, Bungle, Lovage, Weird Little Boy, General Patton vs. the x-ecutioners, Adult Themes, Bjork, Dillinger Escape Plan, and the list fucking goes on. I've never listened to Wolf Mother, so I'm not going to bash them. I couldn't give a fuck less if they're the next big thing, or ALL YOU COOL COLLEGE Kids like them. Really. What does it matter if some kids at college like them, or not? And for college kids, they are pretty fucking stupid to not have at least heard of Patton. He may not be the next Fred Durst, but ya know what? Fucking good! Mike Patton is Mike Patton, and will continue to be Mike Patton for years to come. The man is an artist. An innovator. And to deny the obvious is just pathetic. Regardless if you like the mans work or not, it obviously takes some skill to put a record out. Really, who can dictate when a band sucks or not? (Patton!) But aside from that. We, as fans, have different tastes. I, myself, am into Avantgarde. Some guys like Emo...But our musical difference means nothing, aside that our taste differs. The only music that truly sucks, doesn't exist. And even then, silence can be the most beautiful thing. Like this damn debate..Really needs to be silenced.

Oh shut up you idiot. No one here hates Faith No More, or at least most don't. If we hated Faith No More we wouldn't even know who Mike Patton was. Most of us dislike, or let me rephrase that "most humans who've heard the music he's made after Faith No More think it's crap". Besides Faith No More, the only good album he's made was his first Mr. Bungle album. After that everything was ruined (pun intended).
The fact that he's played with all those ridiculous bands no one's even heard of doesn't make him a good musician. It's also stupid how he whores himself around with all those (very unknown) gay bands with stupid names. If he stuck with one band he'd maybe make some listenable music again. Anyone who likes his music is GAY.

I like Mike Patton's work for the most part, and there is no doubt he started and immediately shunned many trends. He is a brilliant musician and composer, unquestionably. Having said that, I heard of Wolfmother from Ferall on Sirius and searched out their music. I recognize all of their influences and I like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd and ELP. I understand Wolfmother is popular worldwide, but they came to Orlando last night(I was there) and tickets were still available until the day of. All of you rock snobs are hating on a group because they are bound for greatness and it will give you a head start on hating them. Wolfmother has no pretensions and come to rock and put on a show. A couple of years ago that douche from Godsmack said Jack White was ruining rock and roll, no reason given, he was just ruining it, and this is what Mike Patton sounds like. Shame such a brilliant mind would focus on HATING another band. Most of you think that a band is only cool until someone actually hears them and masses of people like them. Marxist Bullshit. If someone sits down with nothing but profit in their mind, they're not going to sound like Wolfmother. 3 Doors Down, yes. Creed, yes. Dave Matthews, yes. Wolfmother just sounds like a group that wants to play heavy and hard and get laid at the end of the night by many hot chicks. They are sexual, evil, doomy and nostalgic.
Fuck any of you, Mike Patton included, that spew cynicism just to try and prove to yourself you're not trendy and you're some kind of musical conniseur. If he wants to sell records, reunite Faith No More. Otherwise he should keep making obscure, progressive music and those of us who don't read Rolling Stone or Spin or watch MTV will support him because he is a musical genius. And then those of us who just want to rock sometimes will also support Wolfmother and Jack White and respect you if you don't.

Hey I'm not a Wolfmother fan but they sound good. Of course it sounds like classic rock Led Zeppelin/Black Sabbath, but who cares since rock has been dead for how many years now? Better than nothing. The music channels don't know what to play so all they do is play hip-hop. And the rock stations don't know what new stuff to play either so they keep playing old stuff like Nirvana or whatever. My gripe with Wolfmother is the singer's appearance and the video they made for their hit single. Does he really think he's in the 70's? Does he really think it looks cool?
Wolfmother probably isn't even aware Mike Patton still exists so it doesn't matter. No one cares. He can say whatever he wants, he has been lost into obscurity. If you told Wolfmother "hey the former lead singer of Faith No More Mike Patton dissed you on tv" they would probably get offended but probably wouldn't even know that he makes music 1,000 times worst than them now. They'd probably go "who the hell is he to criticize us!!". In the clip Mike Patton says they suck almost like he's still in a top band like Faith No More. Not like he's one of the worst artists the world has ever seen. Ok, one of the worst artists that used to be in a great band the world has ever seen. I don't know if that clip showed up on tv (is that "thee" G4 channel, I didn't know they covered music).
Patton deserves to be in the Guiness Book of World Records for how many collaborations he's been in and bad unlistenable music he's made. The only reason he even gets an interview is because he was once the singer for Faith No More. Like FNM's drummer Mike Bordin once said "he can collaborate with all the bands he wants, but he will always be known as the former lead singer of Faith No More". hahaha

Score = 0
lol, too late. Can I get an amen for Mike Patton sucks now? Anybody.
Score = 0
When I look at that picture of Mike Patton at the top of this page with him poining at the camera (that's where he's saying "Wolfmother you suck"), I can't help to think right after that he should've pointed to himself and said "and I suck even worse".
Score = 0
Faith no More isn't the only reason Mike Patton's remembered...Hell, this was taken at lalafuckingpalooza, and what band was featured playing there? None other than Peeping Tom. Which, by the way, has Mr. Patton as the singer.
Score = 0
I'm SURE you're not even comparing Peeping Tom with Faith No More. Lalapalooza hasn't had anybody good to play there in a very long time so nowadays they just pick any bands from the street they can find and ask em if they want to play. Most of them say "NO, hell no". I'll admit Peeping Tom isn't that terribly bad compared to the other sh*t he's made for years, but he was probably offered a place in the line-up because he used to be in Faith No More is somewhat known, and also known for acting whacky sometimes which makes for a good show. You still can't say Mike Patton is remembered or known cause of Peeping Tom. He will always be remembered cause of Faith No More, just like FNM's drummer Mike Bordin said. He's lucky he was in Faith No More or else his Peeping Tom would only be featured on a poster in front of a toilet in the bathroom at Lalapalooza. I hear Mike Patton cruises the streets at Sunset Blvd. nowadays with a sign saying "Will play music for food" lol
Score = 0
Mike Patton is a nit wit, he cant fathom how a group as new to the industry as wolfmother has so much f--king sucess, so he makes an asinine statement like "what year is this !" is this the 1970s or what... When in fact mike patton is a wanna-be Frank Zappa A-dah!1970s again. the truth is mike patton doesnt hold a candle to avantgarde artists such as Zappa or Capt. Beefheart, he is a little jealous no talant worm who sucks in plain english. And now that faith never was, is over. He has all this artistic expression (yeah, weasels ripped me off, is what zappa would have renamed his album }mike patton is lame,c'mon the bass player dressed up as a st. paulie girl wow, thats not music thats art man! the moral of the story is when you suck, you suck. putting another band down just shows what a small lil diva, mike patton is. I agree with one thing, M.P. should have been in stand-up hes so ridiculous hes hilarious
Score = 0
Actually he's been known to go upstage and do standup. I don't know how much but from the interviews I've read there were two occasions. He of course has to give the bar owner a bl*wjob and then he gets the go ahead, something he's said he doesn't mind doing, and rather enjoys.
Dissing a band in front of your friends is fine but on national tv? He must want some controversy for his sh*tty Peeping Tom. I don't know if this aired on tv but it's not cool. Plus these guys are playing with him right there at Lalapalooza. Not cool. It must be embarassing for him if he realizes that Wolfmother doesn't retort because they don't have an inkling he still exists. It's funny how he points to the camera saying "Wolfmother YOU SUCK" and trying to say it as forcefully as he can cause he knows no one is listening lol
Score = 0
Let me guess... half of you have not even heard of the artists that Mike mentioned he is collaborating with? Like him or not, he is one of the most prolific and evolving artists of the last 15 years (and future, no doubt).
Fukn ignorant college kids who buy whatever mainstream rehashed crap they can fit on their ipods.
Jet, Wolfmother, make me ashamed to be Australian. Make music your own and bring it into the present through being innovative. Dom't just regurgitate the classics and try to pass it off as creativity.
Score = 0
Oh, and "billybimbo"...
punctuate much?
Score = 0
For those of you who think that Wolfmother rip off BS and Zep, you'd be right.
But wakey wakey and open your ears kids, everything is influenced by something else, nothing is original. At least Mike Patton left Faith No More at its peak to become more left of centre and out of the limelight, he likes it that way.
And as for Wolfmother, I saw them play here in Sydney at one of their first gigs ever, in this tiny club and they rocked. Even if the album is overproduced shite. But good luck to em, its all about selling albums and screwing groupies.
Each to their own I say. Personal taste is something that offers us the opportunity to listen to music we like, and allows new bands to form and music to be born and live.
Keep a rockin everyone, I say!
Score = 0
...and for Nadine, that bullshit about being ashamed to be Australian, you're a loser, what have you ever released?
oh... nothing, well at least these 2 bands are doing it, more than I can say for you...
Australian Music has evolved over the decades and brought to the world some fantastic bands, like Nick Cave, The Saints, Hoodoo Gurus and many more, so don't act like you hate Jet cos I bet you liked em at one stage...
Even I did, but I don't dislike them now either, the only thing I hate is Pop and that Idol shite...

I bet the guy doesn't ever get any pussy. He just sits on-line waiting to attack people that Love Patton. What a Loser!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How fucking stupid can you be? Patton didn't get offered to be in Peeping Tom. HE FUCKING MADE THE BAND! It's been a progress-in work project for quite some time.

mike first mentiones that hes making an italian 60's influenced band, and then, seconds later asks wolfmother what year they're in for playing classic rock.......... seriously guys, just what kind of an arrogant idiot is mike patton amyway?
the guy has no room to critisize ANYONE anymore after all the fucking shitty projects the loser is responsible for.
i dont like wolfmother one bit.. i am a big fan of faith no more and bungle though. but im smart enough to know that patton isnt even the main contributor to these bands, in fact, pattons parts in these good bands, are very small... i dont agree with patton in this interview, and in general, i think the guys days are over. he could have left the music industry gracefully but instead chose to fuck up his image by dressing in "rico-suave" white suits and he sings like a wigger. shame on the fucker.
and fuck any patton ass lapping fan boy that tries to say that his projects are genius... they're nothing but shitty noise records that market to brainwashed fanatic patton ass-lapping drones.

Gawwwwd! first off that BOZO is an idiot who was obviously a giant Patton fan at one point, till he more than likely had the opportunity to meet him and acted like a dip shit! right? yup, i'd put Money on it! And you FLESH, we tend to knock the things we dont understand, you close minded, wannaBe hipster! And you DRAYDENCE, like Duh! everyone knows Patton Created Peeping Tom, u should be a lil' more creative And try a lil' harder to be part of the discussion here! i mean do you people even know the real reason Patton knocked Wolfmother? to stir the almighty shit storm and so losers like you guys can sit on your computers and argue with other people YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW, OR WILL EVER KNOW about a stupid ass subjects like one artist not respecting another artist. So Patton doesn't like Wolfmother, BIG DEAL! let's waste our time sending hateful messages backan d forth to one another. makes alot of sense! CHOPPER VANHYMAN seems like a Fucking dipshit but at least hes smart enough to know that Wolfmother will fade away in the music scene soon & Patton will keep on makin' weird music for all you haters to rip on cause you have NO LIVES!

Hello, idiots.
Mike Patton is absurdly smart, talented, and a crazy music genius.
Turn off MTV and turn your brains and ears on to good music.
Yes, I am biased because if Mike Patton told me to shut the door and undress NOW, I would, gladly. Nevertheless, the above affirmations stand.

lol, true archetype. what the fuck truly is a loser, like most (if not all) patton fanboys. such an over-rated musician/businessman (in my opinion ofcourse).... i like a quote that bozo posted in here from mike bordin saying that mike can play in as many bands as he wants, but everyone will always remember him as the lead singer from faith no more. so fucking true and so god damned funny!. thats like subtly saying that everything after fnm was shit. i bet he must make so much fun of pattons crappy music with his mates.. summer sausage, your post was the most ridiculous thing ive ever read, and i truly pity you, you sorry loser....you must be a real wanker if you measure how cool you are with the amount of pussy you get. everyone knows that to get pussy you have to sell out to some extent, so if you're a guy who gets a lot of pussy, you awesome pimpin stallion, it means that you've done a lot of selling out in your time.

Simon Hell ...... reeeeeeeeaaaallly?! I did not know that Australia had produced such seminal and influential artists which shaped the rock scene in this country and also the UK (sarcasm).
You said it - Australia evolved into that music scene and now we are devolving by lauding such rehashed pulp as Jet and Wolfmother. And NO... not for one minute have I ever liked Jet, for what its worth.
The new breed of Australian visionaries get no kudos, much less attendance at their gigs. All the attention goes to palatable rock that Kyle Whats-his-face on commercial radio approves of the Aussie kiddies rebelling to.
I'm talking of artists such as Dave Thrussell (Snog, Black Lung, etc) who writes soundtrack after soundtrack and releases a couple of albums a year under different monikers, yet is largely ignored by his home country (even though he has a large fan base in Europe and the US). Bands like Frenzal Rhomb, who actually have something thoughtful to say. Even Spiderbait, who were all but ignored by this country until they released a fukn cover of Black Betty - low and behold, the rehashed crap won the day for them with the banal Aussie public and made Spiderbait and overnight success 15 years in the making.
And by the way, you say you hate pop - guess what. Jet is the new pop. Noticed that Sportsgirl is selling 'Rock' t-shirts for ignorant teenagers to walk around in? "Garage"/"rock" is the new pop. Makes me wanna puke.

I'm sick to death of mike patton obssessed idiots saying what a great musician he is, all he is, is a bloody pretentious try-hard who thinks that the stupid annoying noise he records is actual music! avant-guard my ass!
Score = 0
mike patton is an old washed up piece of shit.. he was a good vocalist in the 90's and contributed to some cool stuff (mr bungle, faith no more), but he really should have left the music scene a long fucking time ago... now he just seems like a coked-headed fucking sell out that is jealous of other peoples sucsess and will work with any loser out there to gain him fame and a "prolific" name. i dont like wolfmother, but i really would rather listen to their shit than peeping tom, or loads of other failing projects that patton is responsible for. the guy sucks and so does his smug attitude. he acts like a spoiled bitch on her period.... i guess anyone would if they constantly failed at every attempt to release a good record.
MIKE PATTON, YOU SUCK YOU FUCKING SELL-OUT!!!!
Score = 0
okay let's look at facts vs opinions
if you don't like wolfmother or patton's music then that is your opinion, if you look on it as being pointless that is also an opinion (are you all keeping up with this?) if you think patton's music (noise or other) is horrible OPINION
now let's look at facts
patton was just expressing his opinion, i'm sure we all talk about bands we think suck or are cool or whatever all the time. when was the last time we made a hit record?! that's right! it's also a fact that you don't need a hit record to voice your opinion. i mean damn i wish there was this much of a shit storm every time i voiced MY opinion, only happens with famous people i guess.
okay some more facts, doing black sabbath COVERS and doing 60s italian pop COVERS is a completely different thing to playing "ORIGINALS" that sound anything but original.
another fact, whether or not your OPINION allows you to like mike patton you can't class all his music as noise, yeah he's done avant garde/noise stuff but he's also worked on metal, lounge, triphop, hiphop, ambient, punk, electronica, rock etc he's worked with a bunch of different people in a bunch of different genres (whether or not you like any of it is irrelevant to the facts)
here's another little fact for you: the first fantomas album sold over 30,000 copies in it's first year (a number which has been far outstripped by every subsequent release) not bad for a noise-metal album on an indie label fronted by a "has-been" rockstar.
time for another opinion, it pisses me off that people who don't like patton's music almost always try and label those who do as "fanboys/girls" or "sheep" just because you don't like it doesn't mean i cant, and just because i like it doesn't mean i'm a fucking sheep, i didn't even get into fnm when they were around i got into patton through hearing a copy of bungle's "california" album being used as the soundtrack to a friend's short film.
i especially found this "sheep" idea funny when i was checking out reviews for a david bowie album, one of the few albums he's done that i like and i found a review that informed me that the only reason anyone would like this bowie album is if they were a fanboy or a sheep following everything he did... wow i thought it was because i enjoyed the music on it's own merits... nope apparently i'm just a sheep, that's the only reason anyone would like the album.
one last fact to round things off
what has mike bordin done since fnm split? lot's of songwriting and starting a new band? nope, he's drummed for korn (whoop-di) and ozzy osbourne different strokes different folks
Score = 0
My question is. Why do any of you care?

So what if Wolfmother sound like a retro cover band? it doesn't mean their music isn't enjoyable to listen to..unlike some of the CRAP mike's recorded.
"What year are we in" it's 2006, time for pretentious hasbeen's to stop critisizing other musicians.
Score = 0
Um, you're wrong. You say mike recorded CRAP. Definite critcism. Then you say pretentious hasbeen's should stop critisizing other musicians. And yet you get to criticize mike. Oh I see it now. You want a monopoly over the criticism market. Gotta love that criticism dollar. That's a hell of a dollar!

and by the way, saying mike has recorded crap is not criticism, it's fact!

These bird-brained little kids that like steppenwolfmother are the same people that go to a system of a down concert while the mars volta is playing and keep saying "when is this crappy band gonna stop so we can see our rock heroes". And whoever is saying that FNM is responsible for destroying music, are the same people that say "the Melvins are responsible for the Seattle grunge scene"..what a bunch of bullshit. bands like Wolfmommy are one hit blunders spawned from a retro time machine that should have been destroyed a long time ago with the rest of your fashionized music. bands that make shitty music are responsible for destroying the music "scene" or whatever you wanna call it. Im tired of these little fucking emo fags that like bands like "my chemical sunday fall-out romance" and wear gay tight pants and try to skate. you fucks will never understand the mad genius behind pattons music and i hope you dont because your little heads will pop like pimples and you dont deserve to experience music of that magnitude. you are the next generation of music critics and will never get it. go be an editor for rolling stone or something. go get stoned and listen to "pure guava" by Ween. maybe that will knock you off the conveyer belt.
Score = 0
wow, at first i was just mad that all these little fags were bagging on patton, but i went to the wolfmother website and they really do suck! they got all these awards for best rock band/best bass player/ all that shit. any true patton fan knows exactly whats up with that. the singer for wolfmother sounds like shit, and none of their songs are innovative or creative. it sounds like some time machine gone bad. Im amazed at how much praise they are getting especially from someone like jack white. stop trying to bring back the 70s. the wolfmother website doesnt deserve my bandwidth. now they are getting so many more hits because of this patton slam which really sucks because mike deserves it more. but at least people can realize how shitty wolfmother is.
Score = 0
im sure mike patton wouldnt be so vocal on his opinions of say britney spears and the like, but he most likely resents that wolfmother are so successful when his outfits by comparison havent been so openly accepted. hence the outburst. so what? he's allowed to do that. i'l listen to what i like because i like it i dont care what anyone thinks.
Score = 0
Stupid bands like Wolfmother base their careers on fame rather than music. Just listen to it! Real success comes from years of hard work, dedication and love. Wolfmother is a trend. Do you REALLY think that they are doing something creative?? As long as they are having fun, thats what matters, right? But the truth is it won't last long and they are pretty much a disposable band. What do you think their next album is gonna sound like? Probably exacly the same as the last one. I think alot of people are putting Mike Patton in the same category as say, Axl Rose or CC DeVille which is unfortunate because all the blind see is Faith No More only...which wasn't a bad band at all and I don't see the connection to "Rap Metal". Axl Rose should call it quits because he sucks, but Pattons got quite a few years left in him. I mean could you ever see Axl Rose singing for Fantomas?? Cmon. it's unfortunate that people don't think anymore about music. They just take what's fed to them like Wolfmother. It's the new thing! Come check this out! and then it's over. I would love to see Wolfmother open for Slayer.
Score = 0
Point of order mister speaker:
Yes FNM did cover War Pigs, and yes they did cover it live in the early days of Patton's tenure, but one should know who the Sabbath tragic in the band was. That's right, Big Jim Martin. Even at the time Patton was on record saying how much he hated doing Black Sabbath covers, but he was the new boy so he shut up and did his job. After Jim left, I've never heard of them doing any Sabbath covers again.
Not bashing Sabbath by the way but as obvious knock-off bands go, Wolfmother and Jet are so flat-out BORING you have to conceed Patton's point. At least if you're doing retreads have a sense of humour, like The Darkness (RIP).

I dont care for wolfmother but Mike Patton is a joke and is really one to talk. 90% of the music he puts out is shit. And I find it ironic he is bashing wolfmother saying who listens to this crap while he is talking about making an album of Italian music. I saw him open for tool in boston a few years ago and he got booed off the stage

Statistics are bullshit. You can generate overwhelming statistics for manure, but it's still shit.
People like Wolfmother and people like Faith No More/Mike Patton. Saying one of them "sucks" is unfair, because more than likely a Wolfmother fan hasn't listened to more than 5 songs by Mike Patton and vice versa. Who knows, maybe there's a song OTHER than "Woman" that you might like if your preferred artist is Mike Patton.
