Monsters Of Folk Do "Dear God (Sincerely M.O.F.)" With The Roots On Fallon

thumbnail icon: Monsters Of Folk Do "Dear God (Sincerely M.O.F.)" With The Roots On Fallon

Your local triple-A format radio station's favorite of this year's supergroup explosion stopped by 30 Rock last night. That's M. Ward, Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis, and Yim Yames, singing "Dear God (Sincerely M.O.F.)," the minor key harp and soul track from Monsters Of Folk's self-titled debut. As has been the case on tour, Centro-matic's Will Johnson is sitting behind the drums, although M.O.F. had an extra-extra special beat maker last night in ?uestlove, and the rest of the most fab Roots crew, who together made what was a simple supergroup into something like a preview of a Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony superjam from ten years into the future. Despite the star power, the song remains the same, but have a look anyway because Questo has a way with them brush sticks.

Monsters Of Folk is out. Also, they were on Conan awhile ago.

There's enough awkward swaying happening to make Julian Casablancas proud. Still, song sounds good.

let's be honest. jim james is the only guy making this song worth a damn.

Awesome. Jim James does no wrong. Wish they'd have kept that great guitar interplay outro from the studio version though. Such are late nite time constraints, I guess

the reason it sounds weak is because jim james sounds like a flat tire. an amazing song, but they don't get off the hook for not harmonizing worth a damn. though they may blame the monitors, it was jim james that dragged them down.
too bad really as this is my favorite song of theirs.

They sounded about 400% better than this at the Auditorium theater in Chicago about a month ago. Harmonizing and everything was spot on. Musically and acoustic-wise it was just about the greatest show I've ever been to.

I either blame the monitors there or the fact they didn't have their fancy ear pieces in ;)
