More From The Boss Tribute

Here's a handy roundup of clips from Thursday's Tribute To Bruce Springsteen (Featuring Bruce Springsteen) at Carnegie Hall. The vid quality is fair to shitty, but until a charitable bootlegger steps forth (please!), it's the best of what's around. (The "Bruce Speaks" clip is a must.)

  • Patti Smith Performs "Because The Night"
  • Pete Yorn Covers "Dancin' In The Dark"
  • Odetta Covers "57 Channels (And Nothing On)"
  • Jesse Malin & Ronnie Spector Cover "Human Heart"
  • Bruce addresses the eerie oddity of having everybody talk about you all night as if like you were dead (and saying Odetta's was the greatest version of "57 Channels I've ever heard")
  • Bruce & The Finn Street Band Perform "Rosalita"
  • Enjoy.

malin usually rocks...but that performace sounded shit. "everybowdy's got a hungry hawwt". of course, the out-of-tune bitch whining over the top didn't help.

Patti Smith co-wrote "Because the Night" with Bruce Springsteen. She recorded it and released it in 1978 on her Easter album. I'm not sure if it can technically be described as a "cover" if she performs it onstage in 2007, since she was always the artist most associated with that song. Whenever Natalie Merchant does it, then it's a cover.

My thoughts exactly, Stephen. I only made it into a minute of it before closing it out. Ugh.

wish I had been there. watching Craig Finn is the best part. he's just totally losing his shit. (which is exactly how I would be if I got to sing "Rosalita" onstage with Bruce.)
