My Morning Jacket Meet Their Biggest Fan On Conan

thumbnail icon: My Morning Jacket Meet Their Biggest Fan On Conan

Did you see Conan last night? That Anne Hathaway is delightful. Did you know she used to be in a college a cappella group? My Morning Jacket were on too, and they did "Touch Me I'm Going to Scream (Part 2)." I'm sure Anne Hathaway enjoyed it. Conan definitely did; he likes all the cool bands. Earlier in the show, Conan invited MMJ's biggest fan (Scott from Alabama) to come backstage and meet the band. LOL ensued.

The belly dancer at the far urinal is James Lipton of Inside The Actors Studio. Yes I just typed that sentence.

Here's the performance, thrilling as always. Give Jim James a cape and an omnichord and a stuffed bear in a Mexican poncho and he will give you Must See TV.

And while I'm at it, some clips from MMJ's marathon Bonnaroo performance finally surfaced on YouTube. "One Big Holiday" with Kirk Hammett of Metallica...

And "Home Sweet Home" (Mötley Crüe tune) with Zach Galifianakis as Little Orphan Annie:

That was so Raven.

That first minute of the "One Big Holiday" clip reignites my goosepimples. So much classic.

Scott from Alabama looks like Mick Foley. Not totally sure, but I think Cactus Jack could be a fan too. Or maybe Dude Love, or Mr. Socko. Man, those were the days.

The Forkcast of this was hilariously apathetic.

"Scott" is Scott Register, of Reg's Coffeehouse. Reg has a nationally-syndicated show, was instrumental in getting MMJ airplay, and is close friends with the Jim James, so it wasn't exactly a random meet, but funny nonetheless.
Reg is one of the the best things to happen to radio and independent music (especially in Alabama) in a very long time. Great guy.

Scott from Alabama is Scott Register of the Coalition of Independent Music Stores. Cool guy with a radio show called Reg's Coffeehouse.

Not sure about St. Vincent, but I got a promo email stating that Nicole Adkins was going to be with MMJ. Can't tell though.

Band To Watch: Blank Dogs

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun

Raleigh-via-Eau Clair BTW Megafaun debuted impressively earlier this year with Bury The Square. The trio nip-and-tuck experimental tendencies (tape splicing, white noise colliding with banjo, junkyard-laced spring reverb, screeching feedback at the tail end of a quiet back porch lament)...
