My Morning Jacket Bring Their "Amazed," "Evil Urges" To SNL

This weekend's MacGruber-friendly Saturday Night Live episode featured Shia The Motherfucking Beef and musical guest My Morning Jacket. Jim James probably didn't want to scare America and so he kept "Highly Suspicious" on the sidelines. Instead MMJ catered to the jammier elements of Evil Urges, with southern rocking "I'm Amazed" and the Dead-inflected verses/Allmans-Skynyrd rapid-fire guitar harmonies of "Urges." Jim brought out his falsetto for the occasion, sounding smooth as it did in Indio, and he couldn't help himself to at least one bit of meta-showmanship (check the frozen-image pose at both performances' end). Here's "Evil Urges":

That shit was incroyable. We're still waiting on a benevolent YouTuber to upload "I'm Amazed" (UPDATE: found it, thanks all) so instead here's the evening's other rock-oriented performance, featuring Shia and Samberg in their underpants.

But first, "I'm Amazed":

Now the best worst look in the world:

The Digital Short well could use a refill, wethinks. Our favorite sketch in awhile: The Match Game spoof (featuring impressions of Charles Nelson Reilly, Nipsy Russell, Marcia Wallace, and hilariously, Doug Henning).

Sweet '70s satire. Incroyable. Damn we love Jean K Jean.

The Match Show skit was the funniest thing on SNL in a long time but I think the magician was based on Doug Henning (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doug_Henning), not Gallagher.

A skit based on a 70's game show, and sadly, MMJ's first song, looked and sounded very dated...

The performance was horrendous. His high octave signing sounded horrible.

@ Brad
I couldn't disagree more with you.
That is a very tough song to pull off and they did a kick ass job.
Their new album is definitely a turn in the right direction.

I totally showed my age when I told my girlfriend that Shia was going a KILLER Doug Henning (and yes, he was totally doing Henning, not Gallagher) she was like, "Doug who?" Ha!

Anyway, that skit was effing hilarious (Fred Armisen as Charles Nelson Riley was out cold!) and MMJ totally rocked that joint! God bless real bands that can, you know, PLAY.

Plus Amy Poehler does a very, very kind Hilary Clinton. The real one is so much...harsher.

Cheers!

The two my morning Jacket songs were not that good, i'm allready feeling major disapointment set in with this new album. it just seems so generic.

I know, right? What's up with that?!?!! Boring and generic. I have tried so hard to like these songs. About my eighth time listening to "I'm Amazed" and I actually said outloud, "Nope, that's bad. It's just. bad." I have so many wonderful memories tied up in this band, back to ISM. They will wow me again. I have no doubt. But what the f*ck happened with this record?!

A meta moment you may have missed (ooh, alliteration!): At the end of the first song, they played the three-note NBC sign-off theme. Yeah, I know. I'm a dork.

Okay, so I recognized Brett Sommers and Charles Nelson Reilly, Marcia Wallace, Nipsey Russell and Doug Henning but who was the new Latina chick playing?
