Neko Case Covers Harry Nilsson, Performs New Songs At Bumbershoot

thumbnail icon: Neko Case Covers Harry Nilsson, Performs New Songs At Bumbershoot

Middle Cyclone, Neko Case's solo follow up to 2006's Fox Confessor Brings The Flood, is due on Anti- in March 2009. Clearly in prep mode, she performed three Middle album tracks along with a Harry Nilsson cover at Bumbershoot in Seattle this past Saturday. We weren't there, but YouTuber ktparker captured all the aforementioned. She offers a warning about the first one:

[T]his video was ruined by the KEXP photographers that kept getting in my shot. I'm uploading it anyway, though, because it's the only song I shot in good quality. Unfortunately, it also cuts out at the end, and I'm not sure why, since the card wasn't full. Oh well!

You're too hard on yourself and the KEXP photographer, ktparker. They all look/sound OK.

First New Song

Second New Song

Cover of Harry Nilsson's "Don't Forget Me"

Third New Song

ktparker notes about that last one: "The set was running short, so they added this one in!" Maybe you can catch it when Neko tours:

Wowsers, what a shock to see my videos posted on my favorite music blog!!

I Googled the lyrics to the Harry Nilsson cover really quick, and "Alimony" was what came up. I'll get it correct on YouTube. Thanks for the correction!

Oh, and just so that it's clear, Neko said the Harry Nilsson cover will be on the new album.

I have some more video from the show that I might get up at some point, too, but I wanted to get the new songs up first.

It was a great show. Neko and Kelly mentioned onstage that they weren't too used to being out and performing that early in the day. They joked that they needed to get wasted before playing, which they didn't do prior. It was more like a recital than a concert. Half of the show is enjoying the stage banter Neko and Kelly spout off to the crowd.

I saw Neko this Tuesday (9/16) and she played these 4 new songs, plus another that she stated was "about killer whales and elephants, together at last, but in a good way, like if they went skeet shooting...FOR HUMAN MEAT!"

She even stated that it needed to be ... before FOR HUMAN MEAT!
