Neko Case Performs "This Tornado Loves You" On Letterman

thumbnail icon: Neko Case Performs "This Tornado Loves You" On Letterman

Dave doesn't kiss just any musical guest's hand (even though "Karen O is like rad, man"). Last night the Late Show host seemed particularly charmed by Neko's tale of whirlwind romance incarnate, a Middle Cyclone cut Leno and AOL didn't get. Along with her band (including Crooked Fingers' Eric Bachmann), Neko was joined by four female backup vocalists: Rachel Flotard, Lucy Wainwright Roche, Norah O'Connor, and Kelly Hogan. Watch it, maybe you will be charmed too.

Middle Cyclone is out via ANTI-.

The giant right behind her appears to be Mr. Eric Bachmann (Crooked Fingers).

That was a pretty flawless performance. Her voice sounds as good live as it does on albums. Props to Neko & again to Dave's sound team & of course Dave himself. It's rather remarkable to have an 11:30 network talk show that holds real bands & good music in such high regard.

sometimes i like to pretend that i'm the one that has to stop it stop it and i'll go out in the yard all houses flying by and scream out at the top of my lungs "stop this madness, i love you neko" and everything calms the fuck down and neko comes out and is like "cool, you wanna go swimming up to vermont?" but then all the sudden she's talking about punching me in the face and i have to remember its just a record

Just saw her last week in Boston (minus three of the back-up singers) - her voice is flawless live and she is very witty and charming. Guy playing the 12 string in the Letterman clip also plays pedal steel live; he's amazing.

Yes, that is Eric Bachmann. Crooked Fingers is opening for her on this tour (also quite good).

I saw Neko last Wednesday night at the 9:30 Club in Washington DC and she did not disappoint. Middle Cyclone has really grown on me since picking it up a few weeks ago, and "This Tornado Loves You" has become one of my favorite cuts. Neko's one of those rare singers who sounds every bit as good (or better) live as they do on their recordings. Love her, and her music, so much...
