New Alanis Morissette Video - "Underneath"

thumbnail icon: New Alanis Morissette Video - "Underneath"

Alanis Morissette in 2008 is ... Alanis Morissette in 2008. Surprisingly, though, this video for "Underneath" is different than the nightswimming clip she did for the Flavors Of Entanglement tune in '07. This new piece, in anticipation of studio album seven, goes a long way to let us know that the revolution starts at home. We see Alanis switching between a slinky red slip and grunge-era environmental activist gear as she tries reconciling her anger with global politics and the strained relationship with her boyfriend Jack Johnson.

No, it isn't the real JJ, but might as well be, because that'd be ironic. Nice use of bass-drum-as-beating-heart. Save the Earth. "No, Alanis, save the heart." Between this and the alternate version of "Violet Hill," we're ready to start a completely vague revolution.

Flavors of Entanglement is out 6/10 in the US on Maverick/Warner Bros.

Alanis looks like Avril Lavigne on the video.

does this song and video have what can be referred to as a 'modern rock sheen'?

Am I the only one hearing The Cranberries, here? Maybe she's sounded like this the whole time and I've just now gotten around to noticing.

so... environmental activists hate themselves are are trying to save the planet because they can't face their crappy relationships? it's like some kind of bizarre PC high schooler confection.
