New Albert Hammond, Jr. Video - "GfC"

thumbnail icon: New Albert Hammond, Jr. Video - "GfC"

You've heard the song, you've streamed the album, and now you can simulate dropping acid while having the audio-visual realization that Hambone Jr. is making a case for Top Stroke. Quoth Goldenfiddle: "...now he's starting to make you look bad, Casablancas." Pretty much, yeah.

Happy trails:

Albert Hammond, Jr. - "GfC" (MP3)

¿Cómo Te Llama? is out as of today (7/8) via Black Seal. Albert played a show at Mercury Lounge the other week for his favorite friends, hangers on, models, and (a + b + c =) Agyness Deyn. We weren't there, but FADER was:

"Everyone Gets A Star"

"In My Room"

"GfC"

Except of course that Albert Hammond Jr has never written anything close to:
Last Night
You Only Live Once
Barely Legal
Under Control
Hard To Explain
Someday
Ask Me Anything

Other than that though, yeah--top Stroke.

fair points, all. i was feeling hyperbolic in the name of baiting julian. point is hambone's stepping up, and the next strokes album doesn't even seem to be an idea yet. they more than impressed when i saw them live in support of First Impressions; i have hope.

The new album on first listen seems to have lost the first album's certain something.

i like the new album better than the first one. the next strokes album is definitely happening.

I agree, the uptempo miracle pop of the first one is certainly absent on go around numero uno, i'm a patient man though and listen one very rarely gets the job done

all I know is that First Impressions of Earth was one of the worst albums ever.

Albert Hammond is as every bit as good as Julian.

Good! Someone brought up that aural abortion: First Impressions of Earth. After that, and these two records Mr. Hammond Jr. has put out, I'm not so disappointed about The Strokes ceasing to be. I totally stand by the author on this one; Casablancas is being given a good run for his money.

julian wrote the words to those killer strokes songs.
yes.
but did he write the music, melodies, come up with the chords.
doubtful.

hammond does it all.

From Wikipedia about Julian Casablancas:
"As The Strokes' principal songwriter, he has the greatest impact on their sound and has been known to be extremely meticulous with it."

next time you can check wikipedia, allmusic, actual liner notes, etc. to see where songwriting credit is given.

Yeah, I believe I saw that Casablancas wrote like every part on most of the Strokes' first 2 records. I'm not sure about the third, but then I don't care - it sucks.

is it just me or does the mixing of the drums get really bad around :37 and 1:38. hope it's just a weird thing on the video otherwise those sections would be really annoying to listen to.

Sean Eckmann

Yeah, I noticed that too, it's just the video.

Why don't we all just take Albert's music for what it is and stop comparing him to the strokes...jeez

has anyone noticed the similarities between the bass line his song Victory at Monterey and that of The Breeders' Cannonball?

Nick Valensi would be just as good if he weren't so cool and would not party and have sex with supermodels every night.

I'm sure he has shitloads of time to party with supermodels every night in spite of the fact that her has a young set of TWINS at home. Sheesh.

If you will excuse me, Vision Of Division is the best song ever. I saw them at a small venue in Memphis and he was screaming so loud on that song and Reptilia that the venue had to cancel a show that was supposed to take place the next night bc he blew the speaker system out.

Band To Watch: Blank Dogs

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun

Raleigh-via-Eau Clair BTW Megafaun debuted impressively earlier this year with Bury The Square. The trio nip-and-tuck experimental tendencies (tape splicing, white noise colliding with banjo, junkyard-laced spring reverb, screeching feedback at the tail end of a quiet back porch lament)...

Premature Evaluation: of Montreal - Skeletal Lamping

Skeletal Lamping is anything but skeletal. When we took a close listen to album closer "Id Engager" we mentioned it wasn't the strangest, most ambitious, or best tune on of Montreal's new one, but after absorbing the other 14 tracks,...
