New Amanda Palmer - "Astronaut" (Live)

Forget Who Killed Amanda Palmer?, we're wondering: Where's Brian?! Amanda's been up to so much by her lonesome recently, like far-flung covers (R.E.M., Rihanna, St. Vincent) and walking with the ghosts. And though it's more strictly Palmer here, it's well forgiven because a) it's a listen at her forthcoming, Twin Peaks-referencing solo album and b) it is really, really good (and dramatic!). From her solo gig in Boston at Sxip's Hour Of Charm. She can barely contain herself:

Who Killed Amanda Palmer? is due in '08 on her label Eight Foot Records. If you liked that and are in Australia, Amanda's coming to you with a bunch of shows this month. And Brian finally gets back in the act this winter with a bunch of North American Dresden Dolls dates, through later-December and most of January. Jump for 'em.

just saw her on the 24th solo, wasnt sure how i was going to enjoy it without the powerhouse known as brian viglione backing her, but i was insanely impressed by her alone. seems her voice is a hell of a lot more accurate live these days.

don't care for the dolls myself, but an interesting sidenote: while she's doing the solo record, he's going to be out on the road drumming for nine inch nails. that's a hell of a step up in my book.

Did she shave her armpits yet? Hard to tell. Glad to see she got rid of the drumming mime, though.

Band To Watch: Blank Dogs

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun

Raleigh-via-Eau Clair BTW Megafaun debuted impressively earlier this year with Bury The Square. The trio nip-and-tuck experimental tendencies (tape splicing, white noise colliding with banjo, junkyard-laced spring reverb, screeching feedback at the tail end of a quiet back porch lament)...

Premature Evaluation: of Montreal - Skeletal Lamping

Skeletal Lamping is anything but skeletal. When we took a close listen to album closer "Id Engager" we mentioned it wasn't the strangest, most ambitious, or best tune on of Montreal's new one, but after absorbing the other 14 tracks,...
