New Amazing Baby Video - "Pump Your Brakes"

thumbnail icon: New Amazing Baby Video - "Pump Your Brakes"

Amazing Baby -- a band well documented for its connections to Wesleyan, and Brooklyn, and MGMT -- have amassed everything you need for blog buzz since forming in January, on the back of just one free EP. They have some songs, yes, but also they've made it onto some good lineups, and maybe most impressively, they've already amassed a consistent cadre of comment haters. (Sometimes that's a bad thing, and sometimes 'the quicker the backlash, the more people pay attention.') The stomping, glammy, psychedelic call to arms "Pump Your Breaks" is the Infinite Fucking Cross EP track of choice, and the video is a mix of NYC basketball courts, hippie torso wear, seances, visible auras, and Egyptian imagery because why not.

good god that song is wretched. will people listen to ANYthing that is associated with Brooklyn?

if this was an ebay listing, it would be titled: "New 7" from a band -- BROOKLYN, BROOKLYN, BRKLYN, NYC, URBAN OUTFITTERS, SKINNY JEANS"

Yeah, look, this is terrible. I saw them open for Bloc Party and they were alright live, but come on: the one dude want's to play hair-rock, lead for Black Sabbath and the rest are trendy hipsters?! Have I got that correct? It's just weird.

Yeah I'm not sold on it either... This song seems to drone on for the remaining two minutes. But I won't write off this band, I can see where they could write catchy stuff if it were a bit tighter.

Weird. But I'd say it's crap more than anything else

Sonic equivalent to a shitty 90's music video. All that's missing is smashing stuff with a baseball bat, and random images of the desert.

Yeah, I'll risk "'the quicker the backlash, the more people pay attention" etc. But this band is just bad bad bad bad. Saw them open for white denim and bloc party. Wow. Just so cliched and terrible.

Videos like this make me miss Beavis and Butthead.

That said, that is the most impressive slam dunk I've seen since Ed Norton in American History X.

This is the greatest band I have heard in a long while. The video is a bright beginning to an impressive career. The music is tight, bright, and inspirational. To the nay-sayers, get a life and try it yourself some time.
