New Arctic Monkeys - "D Is For Dangerous"

At a secret show Saturday night at the 900-capacity Leadmill in Sheffield, Arctic Monkeys previewed the spiky guitars and wry witticisms from their forthcoming record Favourite Worst Nightmare, including "D Is For Dangerous," which sounds like the love child of first album cuts "When The Sun Goes Down" and the "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor." Hear it at YouTube (the vid is crap but the audio is quite stylish). The A'Monks performed six more newbies, like "Brianstorm," "This House Is Circus," "Balaclava," and "Fluorescent Adolescent," which is clever 'cause it rhymes.

Favourite Worst Nightmare is out 4/23 in the UK (4/24 in North America) on Domino.

They were great here in August. Can't wait for the new one. But still the worst "band name-to-music quality" ratio in history.

CRC,

I'm not, i've seen them play myself here in england before and didn't think much of them then either. It would seem that things haven't improved.

I've seen them play for 400, 800 and 2500. They were amazing every time.

By far, the worst band name-to-music quality is The Beatles

Quit Your Day Job: Ungdomskulen

The Bergen trio Ungdomskulen play proggy post punk, mixing chops and hooks with a sense of humor. But they don't sound like Primus. When I was in Norway a couple years ago, "Ungdomskulen" seemed to be on everybody's lips (or...

Premature Evaluation: Beck - Modern Guilt

It's been some time since we learned Modern Guilt, Beck Hansen's eighth album, would be some sort of psych rock minimalist '60s trip with Danger Mouse. Since then, we've gotten a look at the old-school jazz/Blue Note-style cover art and...
