New Billionaires Video - "Eighties Movies"

thumbnail icon: New Billionaires Video - "Eighties Movies"

The Billionaires story in a nutshell, from what we can tell: band of middle-class kids from Martha's Vineyard move to Los Angeles to: play music (all); try out acting (one Laura Jordan); remain upbeat children of the '80s and the films of its era (all). The clip for "Eighties Movies" is a home-video sort of affair -- production values on par with the movies they reference, etc. -- and that's why it works. The nostalgic references are in there, of course, dropping some Weird Science in bits, hanging around what seem to be some Footloose tractors, etc. Mostly it's a supplemental aid to drive home the groups sunny, multi-voiced indie pop, which benefits from repeat spins and maybe a passing knowledge of John Hughes.

Since you'll probably ask, here's Laura's demo reel. Or, here's all audio, no visual:

I've never seen any the shows in her reel, but I give her an A+.

sunny happy, lo-fi (video at least). i like it. i guess charming is the word. is the rest of the album this good? and if that is a clip from alley mcbeal in the demo reel, that girl is probably older than she looks.

The rest of the album is INCREDIBLE! And FYI...the clip isn't from "Alley McBeal", its from "Brothers & Sisters".

I'm biased, but the record is wall-to-wall. The first four songs (of which this is one) are just unstoppable. This band should be huge.

where's the girl in the performance shots?? they're not even pretending that she adds more to the band than good looks.

geez... i get this a blog that prides itself on indie music. But can you at least do some quality control. This is so overwhelmingly bland it's a total waste of time.

What happened to this band? The demo was so great and then I didn't hear anything more... Still alive?
