New Britney Spears Video - "Piece Of Me"

So if you're like us, you'll watch the new Britney Spears video looking for one thing above the rest: a sign of life in her sedative-deadened eyes. (Bodily gestures approaching distinct and palpable dance moves are a barely required bonus at this point.) After the horror that was the VMAs and the non-starter that was the "Gimme More" clip ... really we'd even settle for an editor-aided illusion of coherence (case in point: the Blackout LP).

What we get, true to title, is lots of little pieces of Britney. Literally -- anything even approaching a two-part physical gesture gets a cutaway, or a splice with a frame from another take, for a three-minute pastiche of quickcuts and quickerpastes providing the semblance of a full video ... and so a nice visual counterpoint to the album's sonic construction. And through the smoke and mirrors of this latest piece it's still clear that Britney has no sense of balance -- not about being "Ms. Lifestyles of the Rich And Famous," and definitely not when it comes to those rumpshakes and twirls.

Blackout is out.

I think this is one of the cheapest excuses for a single I've ever heard. I wonder where she gets off on working this working and being a mama thing, because last time I checked driving around LA in circles while slurpin on an extra large Frappuccino is not a good example of work, and nearly dropping your children on their heads in order to save your drinking glass isn't exactly a good example of being a mama.

However, I do love the AWESOME dance break down that you just know she choreographed and her AWESOME ratty topknot that she obviously styled herself.

Honest question - I have no sound so maybe there's some audio that explains this - but the shots of her 'dancing' against the red lights - is that supposed to be a reference to her VMA performance? Or is that honestly where she's at these days?

"Toy Soldier," "Freakshow" and even "Why Should I Be Sad" are stronger songs off of the album that would have made better singles. They probably chose this one though because it speaks to her public image and shows that at least she's aware of how much people think she's a trainwreck. Now if only she would stop rationalizing that with these types of songs. I really wonder what Britney will do next to further "advance" her "career?" A movie? Another album? A line of hair-cutting accessories?

'freakshow' would have been a way better single choice than this - i actually really love that song!

p.s. i wonder if Wayne Isham thought it was weird directing britney's 'not yet a woman' video, and then then next time doing this one. so weird/sad that she was that wholesome, to now....this?!

Im not sure where you are all coming from.
Britney has talent, she is naturally beautiful without
all the work of the other bitches. She worked her way
up through the ranks - not overnight like Idol..... and
she has had her own - not imported them. Fuck the paparazzi
