New Chris Cornell - "You Know My Name" (Casino Royale Theme)

We have a shitty quality MP3, but why not hear it with footage of Mr. Bond 6.0 (Daniel Craig).

How does it rank among the canon of Bond tunes? Pretty low, no?

"The World is Not Enough" is the best Bond song in the last 25 years, methinks.

Nice quote Julio, ha. This bond actually looks pretty good though (same guy who did GoldenEye) or it at least has potential.

The song is kinda gross though, reminds me of a bad 90's "made for TV" movie or something. The best bond song is Live and Let Die and I also enjoyed the theme to Tomorrow Never Dies even though the movie was awful.

better than i thought, but still really bad. i agree on 'the world is not enough' being one of the better songs of the past few years. this movie looks promising at least.

All I know is Eva Green is in this. That is all one needs to know.

As for the song, eh, I can take it or leave it. It's not dreadful but it's not groundbreaking either. Just sounds like Soundgarden.

no love for thunderball? if you ever doubt the talent of tom jones, read to the absolutely inane and idiotic lyrics to thunderball and then listen to how tom jones sells it. that's effin' talent right there.

"he always runs while others walk"? WHAT??

I agree with Nathan, Cornell could've pulled a Thunderball. I mean the man has the pipes. But the official theme songs have been sucking since the 80s.

Why don't they get somebody who gets the mini-genre? Portishead, Massive Attack, the Tindersticks, Cousteau, Madrugada (if you want to go Sacandinavian again a al A-Ha)... That's just out of the top of my head.

This is BS. Just hope the movie doesn't blow.

What? No love for...

"Dance, into the fire. That fatal kiss, is all we need!"

I'm seriously kidding here (it's so hard to convey sarcasm by typing).

You missed "We have all the time in the World" Louis Armstrong which was the title song to On her majesty's secret service final titles.

And All time high is fantastic, even better is Pulp's version for the "stirred, not shaken" covers album. David McAlmont's cover on the same album is gorgeous too

I gotta agree with Holmes, "Nobody Does It Better" is by far the best Bond song evs. If you haven't heard it, Radiohead did a live cover a few years back. Killed it.

This is not a James Bond kind of song. Nothing better than Garbage's and/or Tina's.

M83 would have been a nice choice for the bond theme. The Louis Armstrong is easy to miss because it plays 2/3rds into the movie.

Also missing: "Never Say Never Again" by Lani Hall. This is due to a technicality, though, because NSNA isn't considered an "official" Bond film. But hey, Sean Connery plays Bond in it, so to me that's "official" enough. It also features Kim Basinger, and Bernie Casey as a black Felix Leiter. But I digress.

Not just the "worst Bond theme song ever," but this Chris Cornell shit sucks harder than that VMA-nominated Rhianna song. That Garbage track sucked as much too, unsurprisingly.

One of my favorite Bond themes was k.d. lang's "Surrender," which was sadly shoved to the end credits of "Tomorrow Never Dies" in favor of Sheryl Crow's decidedly mediocre theme song. The composer for the film didn't even work on Crow's version; he collaborated with lang!

Oh, and for the record, Kanye West's "Diamonds from Sierra Leone" is a direct ripoff of Mantronik's remix of Shirley Bassey's song, which you can find on Bassey's remix album. All Kanye did was add rapping to it.

Radiohead has done a blistering cover of "Nobody Does It Better." They might have been a good choice to bring a truly British voice forward for the "reboot" / "back to basics" Bond film.

Song sucks. Very un-Bond.

Best theme in Bond history?

For purists - "Goldfinger" (Shirley Bassey)

For modernists - a tie "Live and Let Die (Paul McCartney / Wings) and "A View To A Kill" (Duran Duran - remember, it made Billboard's Top 10 along with Axel F)

For "Next Wave" - "The World Is Not Enough" (Garbage - the band, not litter)

I think the Technorati ranks are quite skewed with regards to blogs the recently moved to science blogs. And from my own experience with Technorati, "recently" in their terms can be weeks... They're not always up to date, and have a very hard time handling moved sites or merged domains (two urls both leading to the same site). I tried that once and suddenly I had 0 incoming links, said the mighty Technorati website. Then I had to wait about a month for support, so you can see why I don't believe in Technorati's numbers very much.

I am a "multi-blogger". I have three blogs on TypePad (one general blog [current events, sports, books, movies], one photoblog, one parenting blog), a work-related one on Blogger, and another group-authored blog on Blogger as well. One reason to have multiple blogs is to separate your work life and interests from your personal life.

*** disclaimer: Nitpicking ahead! ***

Am I the only one to object to the trivia "You only live twice - Burt Bacharach"?
Nancy Sinatra anyone?

Also, if the list only features the vocalist "From Russia With Love" is performed by Matt Munro.

Hey guys

I recommend everyone listening to the finished and fully produced version of the song. You can get it off limewire.

I too was dissapointed with the song when hearing this version initially, but the proper high quality version is fantastic, has better vocals and better production. Do check it out. I reckon it ranks up there with the top bond themes.

Boy, I just got around to hearing "You Know My Name" and it was definitely a supreme disappointment. I hope that's not the final version, 'cos it sucks.

My fav bond songs:

1- A View To A Kill, Dur
2- Die Another Day, Mad
3- Diamonds Are Forever, Shir

This is not the final version of the song...so far I've heard two versions, one with more orchestra. Anywayz, as it stands it's prolly the best bond song next to live and let die (which i prefer the Guns and Roses version...). It rocks and has lyrics that back up the new 00-agent.

We prolly won't hear the final version until the 30th when the music video hits TV.

Y'all are all retarted. James Bond isn't supposed to be all techno and new-age like Garbage and Madonna. He's supposed to be classy...so they have to leave some sense of musical style in James Bond theme songs. And honestly guys, they are not looking the please the World of Warcraft crowd out there. I mean really, who is?

Great song, and about time Bond themes were brought out of prehistoric times. Having a song which doesn't sound like the cliched, boring old Bond tributes is refreshing.

Let's hope the film also has come out of the prehistoric times because most Bond of late were masterpieces if you love cliched, formulaic and dated garbage but a great alternative to sleeping pills. This one looks like a corker.

totally think the tune is wicked.. Ive also watched the film and its f'in ace, I really had my doubts. the only scene that was a little camp was the finger sucking, if you havnt seen it, you'll see what I mean, apart from that, pretty cool. One of the better films from a year of utter shite...
