New Coldplay - "Lovers In Japan" (Acoustic Version)

thubmnail icon: New Coldplay - "Lovers In Japan" (Acoustic Version)

Freely and leakily, the sounds of Viva La Vida... are taking shape. Today brings us more of what is on the album, alongside news of what is not on the album -- i.e. Coldplay's collaboration with Kylie Minogue. Reason cited: too much sexy. NME reports:

Frontman Chris Martin revealed that the track was entitled 'Lunar', and that it would appear on an LP the band will release as early as 2009.

"At this point we cannot be that sexy," he said, referring to why the track didn't make the cut for the enw album. "It's a song called 'Lunar' and Kylie is particularly brilliant on it.

But that does not mean there will be no new Coldplay additions to your It's Business Time playlist. For the next time you plan to get amorous in Osaka, here's the acoustic version of what is sure to be your jam:

Pretty song. Chris Martin is such a gentle and sensitive lover, just like you always dreamed he would be. Here, he spoke to EW about the tune:

'No one associates romance with Japan. Everyone thinks [the country] is just about Hitachi and neon signs, but every time we're there, we see these amazing sunrises. It's very sexy.'

Actually I didn't know people don't associate romance with Japan. But then again I don't know the degree of difference between Japanese sexiness and Kylie Minogue sexiness, which is probably why I am wearing sweatpants right now while Chris is wearing that crazy armband jacket thing and getting paid to dance in confetti showers. Anyway, that was just the acoustic version; presumably the album version will feature more Eno-isms. This EPK iteration features more Casio, giggling, and bits of "Chinese Sleep Chant" (sounds promising) and "Yes":

Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends is out 6/17 via EMI.

They played "Lovers In Japan" last night for the Jimmy Kimmel show, after their bit for the show finished taping. Really good song. :)

I'm gonna go out there and say that a lot of snarky people are going to have no other choice but admit this record is good....just a hunch

As a snarky person, I can tell you: Viva La Vida is above average, Violet Hill sucks, and Lovers in Japan is only mediocre.

So I have a feeling that this record will be better than XY, but not THAT great.

i'm usually quick to defend coldplay because they're one of the more decent, modest bands in the mainstream, but i'm not sure about this one. i guess i'll always be partial to "parachutes."

what about the other track that's floating out there? i suppose that's reign of love, and this is lovers in japan? either way, i love that first track, and this one is nice and easy to listen to as well.

brian eno did this band well, but i'm not giving him all the credit.

'Dude. Like, dude. Parachutes. Dude. It was their only good album. Dude.'

Indie elitists are the new meatheads.

KL, you're right really sounds like keep the car running, and cmon lads, calm down here.no one is being elitist by saying parachutes was their best album,it was!I love this band but X&Y was very disappointing, ya know why?coz I heard trouble on the radio yesterday and they have stopped writing songs like trouble. Someone posted saying this album is gonna be epic. I'm not trying to insult you for your opinion so please dont take this as an insult but epic isnt always good, when coldplay wrote beautiful understated songs they were at their best, when they write big epic songs that blast out of a speaker, the lyrics tend to suffer. I really hope this album is good but violet hill is a lazy poor enough little song, lovers is nice though.

On it's own, a beautiful song. Favorite album of the summer (year?) should be Evil Urges. But Vida should earn solid rotation and my girl will love it unconditionally so I can't complain.
