New Coldplay Video - "Lovers In Japan"

thumbnail icon: New Coldplay Video - "Lovers In Japan"

This is actually a pretty nostalgic video from Coldplay, because in it they finally reintroduce those dirty Les Miserables rock opera outfits from the "Violet Hill" era. Just kidding that's the only outfit they own. Attire aside "Lovers In Japan" is one of Viva La Vida's finest songs, you may remember 20 seconds of it as the FOURTH tune they played during their Hamm-y turn on SNL. The official video thankfully doesn't try as hard, letting the song's easy, anthemic intimacy and trippy chalk do the talking -- and is all the better for it.

Hey, they're wearing your Halloween costume. Also don't forget, there's lots more Coldplay on the way.

Basically one of three good songs on this album. As for the videos on this album, this one is the best. Not fantastic by any means, but better than the others.

I really do like Coldplay, and this song, but I couldn't help but mentioning the beginning of this video reminded me of those Sprint commercials with the swirly lines flying about - and more easily, the Easy Lucky Free video by Bright Eyes - only that was better because Conor scrawled a lot more and on a much smaller budget. And one more thing - I can't remember the last time I saw the drummer play an actual kit! Oh well, it's Coldplay and they are easy to love - so I do.

I watched Coldplay on SNL this past Saturday, and I have to say...they were pretty awful. Far too much reliance on samples, and Chris Martin is almost unbearable to watch on stage. He moves around far too much, and always makes the same stupid noises ("ey ey EYYY") in between every part of the song. The guy really does try too hard. The only song they did that didn't sound like crap was "Yellow" and even then he couldn't stand still while singing it, jumping around like he's playing hopscotch. I'd be embarrassed to be on the same stage as Chris Martin, millions of dollars or not.

I love Coldplay and have been a fan since "Yellow" first came out. However they haven't made a good video since... well... Speed of Sound. But that's just my opinion.

However I loved Viva la Vida, a MUCH better album than X&Y and I hope that Strawberry Swing is the next single!

If you go back and listen to "Yellow" off of their Parachutes album, you'll notice its the worst song on it. I can't bash your opinion though. Just saw them this past weekend and it was the first time "Yellow" stunned me.

Gratuitous editing. Way too much. Makes it look like a parody of itself out of the gate.
