New Constantines Video - "Hard Feelings"
After "Islands In The Stream"ing with Feist, its nice to see Constantines getting back to kicking some ass, here with the no frills, rumbling rocker "Hard Feelings." To the point, director Drew Lightfoot pits the band in super high contrast and hard shades of grey, towering over a cityscape like the Kaiser Chiefs could only dream.
"Hard Feelings" comes from the band's fourth LP Kensington Heights, out now in Canada and 4/29 in the US via Arts & Crafts. Check the tour dates here.

I just have to do it. Digital DIY????? what's this? Have you ever heard of Guelph, Ontario Canada? hmmmm....it's like seattle. amazing music but everyone is so bungled up that they don't know how to get their music out there.
well, Out of Sound Records, a collective that started by releasing handmade records (literally hand crafted) invented something called Digital DIY. There is a video all about it @ www.outofsoundrecords.com. the package, not available on itunes (exclusive to canadian outfit zunior.com) comes with a poster and an interactive booklet by the lead singer of this crunchy two-piece.
Then download the record by inputting this code in the downloadcode section Out1133v.
The band Hotkid... the label Out of Sound ( being linked to many great canadian acts such as Baby eagle of the constantines, Will kidman of the cons,Wintersleep, elevator to hell (subpop), great lake swimmers and so many more)

Guelph is kind of like Seattle...with more hippies

Sounds good. I'm excited about some new Constantines music.

Oh the hippies of Guelph... hippies and businessmen.

This would be so much better if it had, let's say, a melody. And the video looks like a really cheap-ass version of the Rolling Stones' "Love Is Strong". Seriously. Look it up on YouTube.

Johnnyboy, you aren't good at listening to music right.
Also, since the Rolling Stones video was filled with heroin-chic models and the Rolling Stones, and was made to accompany "Love Is Strong" by the Rolling Stones, it isn't good. But you're correct in pointing out that a video by one of the richest bands in the world, paid for by an enormous major label, directed by David Fincher, and featuring people who probably all got paid $10,000 a minute for appearing, makes this look "cheap-ass". Because that's important to note. Expensive things are great!

I didn't say the Rolling Stones video was some sort of artistic high-water mark. I was merely pointing out that this exact idea has been done before, by (yes) someone with a much higher budget. And yes, of course I think more money automatically makes things better. That's why I run an indie label with a budget of exactly zero dollars.
I love it when people assume shit about you based on one anonymous comment on a blog. Fucking jackass.
And I stand behind my statement that this song lacks a melody. Do you know what a "melody" is? It's that element that makes a song memorable and proves that someone can write (and, more importantly, perform) a tune. If this song has such a thing, please point it out to me.

Not sure what you want me to do here -- e-mail you a chart for the song or something? You don't hear a melody; I do. Apparently, that's more a matter of taste than I would have thought.
But I guess the reason I posted the first time is kind of underscored by your indie-chest-thumping in your last post: why on earth would you feel the need to cut down an indie band doing the best they can on a limited budget? Regardless of their video's similarities to a dumb, overproduced glamourfest by the Rolling Stones?
"Write (and, more importantly perform)"? Listen, this is a cliched thing to say, but you have to see The Constantines live. I'm not exaggerating when I say that they reaffirmed my faith in awesome rock music. And I'm hardly alone here in Toronto. So if I seem oversensitive, or even like a "fucking jackass", it's because your remarks seemed condescending and weirdly dismissive. I guess I just don't get why you'd be so snide.
