New Dan Auerbach (Black Keys) Live Video - "Trouble Weighs A Ton"

thumbnail icon: New Dan Auerbach (Black Keys) Live Video - "Trouble Weighs A Ton"

When we posted "I Want Some More" from Black Keys vocalist/guitarist Dan Auerbach's forthcoming solo debut Keep It Hid, we mentioned he performs most of it by his lonesome (drums, guitar, percussion, and keyboards minus the occasional guest like his uncle James Quine. This video of the two performing "Trouble Weighs A Ton" is one of those occasions. We're told it was Uncle James of St Augustine, Florida who taught young Dan how to sing and play guitar -- first two songs were Dylan's "Peggy Day" and the Stanley Brothers' version of the Carter Family's "Single Girl, Married Girl" -- so there's a nice nephew-does-good back story to the whole thing. If you're not into the heartwarming shit, it's also a chance to see the inside of Dan's Akron studio.

If you want to play a tech-nerd game, Dan says this is what you'll find in the studio:

...[W]e have instruments like a 1930's Leedy drum kit, a 1960's blue oyster pearl Ludwig kit, a full 1970 Maple Ludwig kit with suprophonic snare, a Moog Voyager, a Hammond M100 organ, a Vox Continental, a Stetson upright grand piano (tuned regularly), loads of new and old guitars, basses and tube amps and shelves full of effects pedals too. We also have a ton of less common instruments like air organs, toy pianos, glockenspiels, accordians, and plenty of percussion instruments.

Take another look here.

I can't believe the album's date has crept up so fast. Really looking forward to it. Just wish the New York dates weren't set right at the beginning of the week.

Shooting the video was sure fun. Dan and James were both down to earth, friendly fellas.
