New Death Cab For Cutie Video - "I Will Possess Your Heart"

thumbnail icon: New Death Cab For Cutie Video - "I Will Possess Your Heart"

Gibbard never does catch up with the globe-trotting redhead who stars in this video for Narrow Stairs' stalker anthem. Not in person, anyway. DCFC tell the jammy, eight and half minute tale in a chilly warehouse, while the object of Ben's affection rides trains looking pensive. Little does she know Ben's winning her over in his mind! It's long and dark (that's what she said) and we still hate Ben's glasses. But we dig the band's creepy new sound.

Narrow Stairs is out 5/13 on Atlantic. Just Jazzin' is out never.

I'm starting to really dig this song, even if the lyrics are a bit subpar for Gibbard (that's meant as a more general compliment).

The chick seems really boring despite all the jaunting. I think he can get her, even if he does live in a frosty warehouse.

So beautiful. From the band, to the locations, to the girl, to the song.. so great. Words can't describe it.

And I;m glad they used the full version and not the radio edit.

I liked this song better when it was the first track on Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.

so first it was stepehn malkie and jicks, now DCFC.... so is this the new trend? to sound like a jam band (nothing wrong this i'm a huge phish fan, i was just wondering)?

and where's the band playing in the video? a meat processing plant? an industrial cooler?

Best video I've seen in a really long time. One thing: you can't fly international out of LGA. Now, normally I wouldn't nitpick about shit like this, but the director chose to show us twice that she was flying out of LaGuardia. Kind of weird. They couldn't just shoot the sign for JFK and cut it in?

Why doesn't Ben just ask Jenny Lewis on a date and get it over with. I am sick of this. Quit beating around the bush man!

I hate the water on the drum heads effect, that is so Dokken.

anyone know, did he play this song on his acoustic tour? i just know i've heard it before.

Also isn't 'Death Cab' a better shortening of name than DCFC? yes, i think so.

Since I have yet to reach that highest level of cool where I am no longer allowed to enjoy Death Cab, and since this is good stuff, I dig it.

One thing... am I the only one that hears Tool for about 15 seconds from 5:38? Check it out. Gibbard's channeling Maynard.

And I second the head shaking at the ice on the drum heads. Tsk tsk.

I'm pretty sure Jenny Lewis is saving herself for me. Plus, if Ben wasn't sad anymore it'd probably kick off the next big ska resurgence...

I agree with derek. I totally didn't like this band. Then I bought their album after getting a song I forget stuck in my head. Damned if I didn't enjoy their flow.

Even if I hadn't purchased 'Plans' I would love this track. I couldn't let the singers sort of annoying poppy voice bring down the vibe of this track. I will now have to buy their next album too. THANKS STEREOGUM! ;)

Sincerely,

Not bad, it ain't no We Have the Facts & We're Voting Yes though.

Of note, I've spotted Chris Walla in no less than three different airports-- who's following who and being creepy now?

you guys are all idiots. how can anyone say anything bad about the only band who is still writing good honest music? you can name individual musicians, but you can't name bands that still embrace the basic roots of good music. yeah, they're not wearing tight jeans or graphic-Ts and singing about mindless things or trying to be "trendy". at least they won't be laughing at themselves 10 years down the road and saying "why the F did I spend all that money at American Apparel?"

Ever since the Atlantic deal, it's all been a little off unfortunately, but the music is still great. The video's leading lady seemed bitter and negative, and hey, that is cool. I just, myself, wouldn't want to possess her heart.
