New Deerhunter - "Disappearing Ink" (Live In Atlanta)

thumbnail icon: New Deerhunter - "Disappearing Ink" (Live In Atlanta)

When writing about Deerhunter debuting songs at NoisePop last week, I mentioned "Famous Last Words" was maybe the closest we'd come to hearing the band do a Strokes song. This was before "Disappearing Ink." Bradford Cox & Co. put the song to tape in their Atlanta practice space for Subterranean -- while listening, try not to think of Julian Casablancas singing along, too. Even if you disagree on the Strokes factor, the guys have clearly been bitten by the pop bug: So far this new material goes beyond Microcastle's relative concision to something even more straight-up and immediate.

Subterranean mentions this is "just the tip of the Atlanta Week iceberg," so I'm guessing you'll get yourself a Black Lips video soon, too.

Yeah but I like when the strokes sound like the strokes. It's disappointing when bands suddenly do this shit all the time. Deerhunter's rad too

Wish their threats to break up would finally come true. So sick of this dude and their music. They need a filter on what they release.

I loved the pop edge in Microcastles but I ain't digging this Strokes-y vibe, mainly because I don't really like The Strokes.

Let's wait for the official release. Any word when that may be? Later in the year? I guess

Crytograms- Perfect
Microcastle- Decent but only because of Weird Era
Post-Microcastle- AWFUL
Pretty sure Deerhunter is on its way down the shitter.
If only they could have stayed art damaged forever...

Microcastle/ Weird Era far far superior than Cryptograms. And this is good too. give them a break.

You're such a typical indie dude. My opinion is the exact inverse of yours, this band just keeps getting better and better. I hope they become really popular and lose all their fairweather fans.

Yeah buddy, cause you know anything about me. I must be typical for having an opinion. I'm not the one with a name ripped from a hipster blog. But maybe you just didn't consider that I enjoy the conflict between the ambience and aggression on the A side of Cryptograms thats make the psych-pop B side feel so rewarding and deserved. Maybe I prefer the versions of Active and Calvary Scars recorded on Daytrotter in 07 to the disappointment of how they turned out of Microcastle. Maybe I don't like it when a band that I once idolized for their creativeness starts playing early 00s garage rock. Maybe I don't live in new york, don't have "indie friends", and don't care about my hipster status. Maybe you should analyze things a little deeper before attributing a personality to my comment. Maybe none of those things are true. What I can tell you is that you can't possibly get any more "typical indie" than claiming that you're not. chose your words Mr. Individual.
