New Depeche Mode Video - "Wrong"

thumbnail icon: New Depeche Mode Video - "Wrong"

Depeche Mode unveiled this anxious and angsty track over the weekend at Germany's Echo Awards, and their internet-press savvy is on display with its official video: released within the week for web embedding, directed by the indie-band friendly string-puller Patrick Daughters. The clip is fairly evil and memorable -- a poor schlub finds himself as the living embodiment of "wrong place at the wrong time" (masked and bound in a Christine car moving in reverse, gradually making his predicament increasingly dire) -- and Gahan's guys only needed to turn up for a momentary reaction shot as said possessed car rolls by on its way to vehicular homicide. Executed like an outfit with real experience, this one.

Sounds Of The Universe is out 4/17 in Germay, 4/20 internationally, and 4/21 in the US via Mute/EMI. Tour's lined up, venues TBA:

I saw them in 2005 and they were amazing. Yeah, they may be old but they can destroy any of the popular faux electronic bands today.

Men, nothing special, it's just some centered text about a copyright claim or something for the whole video. DM can do better.

I'm a big Depeche Mode fan. They have made several poor cover art choices before. This new one pretty much guarantees I'm buying this as an MP3 download. Just to avoid having to look at that awful picture. Maybe they let their grandkids design it?

Hey Preston, name one young band that are better than Depeche Mode. I didn't think so!

I didn't say they were bad... I simple stated that they were old. You brought up the point that there were no younger bands better then them... I have no statement in regards to that, and even if i had... you don't give me enough time to post it.

The video is a mixture of the Saw movies and a crashed Need for Speed Most Wanted

Wait, someone rated me down? Is there really someone out there willing to defend this cover art? Seriously, I am really curious if there is anyone on the planet that thinks this is halfway decent.

Yup, i thought the cover for Playing The Angel was bad designing, but this beats that by miles... i can't believe this was done by Anton Corbijn, because it was, wasn't it. The kerning and choice of font are first grade shit. Like the video though.

I love this! Thought it was out of a movie, like Saw or something. Makes me curious what the original story line was and if there was any more clips they couldn't fit in the video. DM still has it, and I'm glad to see they didn't just slap an album together half-ass for the hell of it like so many other bands that have survived for this long!
